Poor Anna, it must be difficult living in a world where the men are in control and the women wouldn't have it any other way.
Get over it Anna, go back to London, where you won't have to worry about holding in your tummy, and find yourself a nice man who doesn't drink or smoke and only fucks you on Saturday nights. Sit by the fire, watch the telly, and grow old and fat like all the rest of the women in the Western world.
You deserve that kind of life.

Anna Blundy, a former Moscow correspondent for The Times (of London) , wrote an interesting opinion piece in The Daily Telegraph about Moscow nightlife from a fairly liberal, Western female point of view.

Dear Jackson,
I have a kind request. Since I have been out of the mongering sport. Do you think it would be possible to add a thread. For prices. We could just report there and everybody would stop complaining and making same questions all the time
And happily I will move to Moscow. Finally another nice place to enjoy our favorite activity.
I hope I can send some reports soon.
==========================================
As you requested.

Posts: 927Wise words from Stravinsky and just to highlight: If she wishes to look professional and for that to reflect on her(your) business, she will have to ditch the husband for most business dinners and meetings.
He will feel like a dick and her Slavic business colleagues will think that she is a) on a holiday jaunt and using up their time, b) not serious and her business is not serious. This can be a deal breaker.
Same thing goes for a guy who brings his wife to Moscow and expects her to join business stuff. Of course, his judgement is already suspect just by bringing her.
Your colleague, in my opinion, should send hubby off on the sightseeing tours while she attends to business. Who knows he might be delighted with the sights that he finds ? One dinner towards the end with all including the hubby
is acceptable, anything more and it reflects badly on all concerned including the business that sent her.
Ditto the dress code, she had better be very well turned out and be conscious of it.

Nothing strange at all about a woman business manager or business owner in Russia, as long as she has her hair done, wears a dress, high heels, lipstick and makeup. No fair showing up in a pants suit, looking like she just tumbled out of bed (as happens many times here in the U.S.).
She needs to act like a lady as well. No fair pushing ahead of everyone, opening doors for the men, hailing taxis by whistling with 2 fingers in her mouth, cursing like a drunken sailor, etc.
The hubby will definitely look like a bit of a wimp if his wife is paying for everything. I don't think that will be a problem for anyone else, but if it bothers him, he might want to stay home for the business part and then swing by and pick him up for the late night entertainment. It might also look a little strange if she's the boss, but he's paying the bill.
If she wants to pick up the tab, probably best to make arrangements in advance with the waiter or the restaurant, so that the bill goes directly to her and can be handled without too much fuss. I'm sure you can probably advise her as to restaurants where she may want to entertain her guests.
I don't think that a trip to a strip club would be a problem for anyone except her. But, if she's willing to be a good sport and let the men have their fun, they will most likely appreciate her all the more and that will help to solidify the relationship. I don't think anyone will think twice about a man entering a strip club or night club in Moscow surrounded by an entourage of women, except maybe enviously.
Why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone? Have her take everyone to dinner at Night Flight. They have an excellent restaurant that caters to Western tourists and I'm sure the management will handle all the details of payment with sufficient aplomb. It will be fun for the Russians, who will be seeing it for the first time. After dinner, you can head down to the bar for (another) drink. It should be pretty obvious what goes in there and you could use that as her introduction to Russian culture. It's much more interesting than Matrioshka dolls.
What is most important, if she wants to establish her dominance, she must be able to drink and hold her own when she does. Alcohol is the foundation of any business relationship in Russia. Being a woman, I doubt if anyone will expect her to drink vodka: champagne or cognac is more appropriate for a woman. She doesn't necessarily need to drink as much as everyone else, but she needs to drink along with everyone else and let them know that she's comfortable with that. If she's not a big drinker, then she may as well stay home.

Already said dozens times: Moscow is not a cheap town for prostitutes, except if you want to pay five times an anykind woman for a quickie.
Places for foreigners are great cheats. English-speaking prostitutes are great cheats.
Don't waste your time and your money (even if that money if your boss' money): look for freebies and regular (nice) girls only in anyplace.
The biggest secret in Moscow: you can fuck for free!

Sorry for such a boring question, but I wonder if anyone can advise me on a bit of protocol.
I have a colleague who is going to Moscow for the first time, on business.
She is a middle aged woman and a middle manager for the company and not too sophisticated.
She will be accompanied by her husband and another woman employee.
They will be meeting and socializing with two young women who I have recruited to act as agents for the company in Moscow, plus meeting with some Russian partners/customers.
If she were a man and president of the company I would be able to advise her exactly how to act and establish dominance.
But as a woman with a man in tow, is it any different?
Like should she be paying for all the meals, etc, or letting her husband (who is essentially a tourist in this scenario) pick up the tab?
Is he going to look like a wimp if she is always leading and buying?
And what about when dining with partners/customers?
Does she let them host (decide where to go, pick up the tab)?
Also, they are likely to go to night clubs and strip clubs as part of the whole cultural experience (it is a fun business!).
Is it too weird having all these women and one man in the party, or should we have the Moscow girls bring some male friends along?

Posts: 1340Map of Moscow for mongers
When I checked the Moscow forum, I noticed that Moscow (and also St. Petersburg) needs maybe a monger's map (like Alpha Tester's marvelous map of Warsaw).
Actually GandJim's Moscow maps helps lot;
http://isaw-db.com/map_mos.html
But I need something on printable format, with the names of the clubs, the locations, the detailed adress, opening hours etc.
Maybe, I will try to prepare some sort of map, if I have enough time for that...
