Again, you nailed it. I have found Russian girls great to travel with. I have tried the rendezvous in a 3rd location for a sex-weekend / mini-break an excellent investment. Can you get a Russian visa when travelling from a third country?

A colleague is on an extended business trip and wants to add a side-trip to Moscow on the end. I don't know if he will be able to get a visa issued in say, Berlin, when he is travelling on a Canadian passport? I always had the impression that you had to apply for your visa from you home coutnry.

Yep… it seems really funny… I think you are making some kinds of confusion.

You never get Visas from the Embassies of the Russian Federation. You get visas from the Consulate of the Russian Federation. Might be in the same building but usually is even in another city!

Even single states like France or Italy are divided in areas of competence of Russian Consulates. By the way they are closed both on local both on Russian holidays.

Once a time in a land called CCCP (Soviet Union) if you got a visa to Moscow you would be allowed to travel around 70/80 km from Moscow, lets’ say to Zagorsk (Segiev Posad now). But you would have never been able to buy a train ticket to Leningrad.

As other big countries (i.e. Brazil) Russia in some kind of rules is still acting as Soviet Union: reciprocity. You do this to my citizens, I do the same to yours…. My personal non political opinion is that in some cases and for some things (not for visas) it should be enforced in EU too… a simple rule based on the others rule…. You can’t do it at your home you will not do it here…

The main fact is who you are and where and why you are going to Russia.

You are a single tourist with Business/sex purposes? Yes a lot travel for business on tourist visa, most of all, just go with the queue… or ask a visa agency. Get your hotel and your visa, just pay nothing is more simple…

You are a well known (by the Ovir and may be probably FSB) who is in travel and need a quick visa (your previously permanent business one is expired) and you are invited by a state owned or participated company? Almost every Russian consulate will provide a quick service (often even in closing times or on Sunday!). And of course it will cost a lot! (and usually you get no recipe!). In this case may be you will even get the Visa from the Embassy (I had it once from Sunday to Monday, but it was guaranteed by a real big state owned and run company).

By the way all the EU Citizens due to a bilateral agreement of 25 may 2006 signed in Sochi should be able to present a visa request in any EU country, but of course they need an explanation of why they are there and not at their usual residence, for instance a notarized letter of the employer… Really do not know why but this is specified and not valid for citizens of UK, Ireland, Denmark, with different rules.

Your visa history has a lot of importance for Russians (as obvious)… and of course from which country you are… (born, citizen and passport…)

How shall I say visa regulations in Russia are very elastic, but do not think they are stupid, and do not believe in the 5 years visa, usually it does not exist. It’ might be given to persons who have real motivation to travel often in Russia (even a 2 or 3 year one) but in the previous two years have used a yearly business visa several times. For a business visa you might be called personally by the Consulate.

The yearly visa is for unlimited travel not more than 180 days in Russia of which 90 in row (it’s printed on…) of course with a even with a good story and a permanent (one year) visa do not ask for a hotel reservation in front of the ship yard in Severodvinsk… uhmmm it might be really difficult!

On a side note ....

More and more, in the case of Russians, I find that there is no real reason to go to Moscow and financially commit suicide to meet an internet contact you mesh well with. Of course, for Russian girls, problem is EU visa ...they must prove adequate income and a need to return to Russia, as we all know, so it's only possible with defined social classes. The prime target is the cosmopolitan young professionals (that are plentiful on dating sites), the 19-22 years old student type broken dyevs from provinces unfortunally having very limited chances of getting a visa.

It's an approach I use since long. I've done it with romanian chicks (it's much easier for them as they have freedom of movement in EU),for some Russian girls from Piter or Moscow, and for my Georgian GF (EU has recently offered Georgia a visa facilitation agreement for its citizens).For Uzbek or Moldovan dyevs, it's unfortunatly almost impossible. I have seen that with the crisis the price has fallen some where: hotels, transports, even a well descounted LH flight in economy (now I'm flying economy due company rules) from Italy if well booked before around 330 €. But from Air Berlin or such you can get it for half, depends where you start. But I have a high status at LH, and I do not want any hassle with luggage or such....

You can get a "good standard hotel" in the area of 100-150 € (queen, double occupancy, double breakfast)... Of course not at the Ritz. And you can eat good sushi, or an averge meal around 40 € (1.000 RUB) McDonalds or Rostink is obvious cheaper. This if you well know Moscow and have some knowledge of Russian. Otherwise.... it's not a place for backpackers...

If you not go for a hour pro... the expences are simple... (apart the girl)

And then is the girl... Very simple why this will never nevr be a cheap sex tourist destination. But when 95% of all this expences are paid by your company... why not? Tough question.
Ukrainian girls on home turf are definitely not to be missed. Also, Ukraine is also easy because of the relaxed visa regulations.

However, Moscow offers a wide selection of girls from the FSU from "white Russians" to Uzbeks, Kazaks, and even Turkmen girls. However, the one drawback to Moscow is always price. Not just for the girls but just the price of BEING in Moscow in general. It's still a very expensive city to visit no matter how you slice it.

I also have been to Budapest and I would say that both Moscow and Kiev are head and shoulders better than Budapest for "hobbying". If you are up for an adventure you can always try the provinces depending on what type of visit you have. Ufa was a pleasant surprise for me and at least one other guy on this board.

While I have never been there myself, one place that I have heard a lot of good things about recently is Poland.
