The most common diminutive of Oksana is Ksyousha, I've never heard Ksenia used that much.

Some Elena(s) call themselves by Alyona, just depends on the dyev.

Alexandra is Sasha, or Sashinka, or Sashoolya. I've never heard a Russian Alexandra call herself Alex. If she does, it's a dead giveaway she's spent too much time hanging around American mongers. ;-)

Interestingly, Sasha is the diminutive of both Alexandra and Alexander.

Tatiana can be Tania or Tanooshka

Svetlana is Sveta, or Svetoolya, or Svetohchik. Again, no Russian Svetlana would ever think to call herself Lana.

Russian diminutives can go on forever, limited only by your imagination. When Americans do Checkov, it's not unusual to create whole new characters because they can't keep the diminutives straight.

Its My Life, hard to say because the Cyrillic characters didn't translate properly. If there was some way to get maybe a screen shot of a Cyrillic web page uploaded then we could tell.

A fairly comprehensive list now... I realize there is still a lot of "work" to be done. Good idea for newbies to learn those names with the short form in parantheses... these are the most common names and could save you a lot of "what?"s and "huh?"s at the disco when chatting up your girl.

I have a friend who might argue with you about that!

Alyona, Aliona, Jelena, Elena, Jelen, Elen all same same, although some girls are given a name and they do not use other forms. For example a friend of mine, is called Elen, she dioes not use any other form. Another; Alyona will answer to all the above, depending to a degree upon who she is with and where. She wil choose NOT to use Alyona, Aliona (more spelling than pronounciation) when she is with non-Russians, the others in various forms are used with non-Russians.

Oksana and Zhenya (Ksenia) are indeed different names
But you are correct in assuming that Alyona and Elena (and Alina) are the same.

Occasionally you come across (scuse the pun) a Kristina, I have also done a Serafima (rare - that must be worth 25 Yulias at least), and a Tartar called Aina.

Just for statistic reason my Natasha folder is the biggest with about 25%!

And no Olga as well. In my opinion was not so fashioned 20 Years ago.

For male names the same happend most of my friends call Alexandre (Sasha, Shura, Sanja, Sain and so on) or Roman and Andrej.

But only 1 guy Ruslan and only 1 guy Wladimir.

I don't really know about Oksana, but I am pretty sure that Zhenya (as in Evgenia) is the same as Ksenia.

Oh, Doc, there are many more. But surely the most promising for us is Lyubov (love), which is even more auspiciously sometimes shortened to Lube ;-). Or the most tantalising Nadezhda or Nadia (hope).

No Olgas!

A recent review of my carousing activities in Russia has determined that I have failed to fuck even a single Olga!

And in an even more disturbing trend, I have found that 17% of my conquests have been Elenas... it seems that Elenas have united to monopolize my flesh... they must be stopped!

I must encourage the Dashas, Natashas and Katyas (at 9% each) as well as the incomparable Zhenyas (who occupy a mere 7%)to spread their legs more willingly and quickly before I am stolen away by yet another loose-moraled and enticing Elena.

And not a single Olga in the list. Nor a Ksenia or a Ludmilla. Simply depressing.

In assembling the statistical data of my research, I was able to compile a list of Russian girl's names, with their short "cute" forms.

A number of other names occur and for these I don't know the short form, or know if one exists. Perhaps other WSG members can help...
