IMHO "speaking russian" in mongering is just an "urban legend", a myth. Either you LIVE in Russia at least for some months and it is obviously helpful.

But as a tourist (or a monger) it is not. You just need "survival russian" (asking directions, reading signs of Metro stations, understanding menus in restaurants etc).

I can't speak for Chercheur, but I certainly HOPE we are not the typical mongers to Russia. It's clear that I (we) have struck a nerve with you when it comes to the Russian language.
