Posts: 724Male mortality rate explained
From the Economist:
"Yet it is Russia’s self-destructive streak that has turned testing weather into a tragedy. In the past two months over 2,000 people have drowned trying to escape the heat by dunking themselves in lakes and rivers. (For comparison, 13,000 Soviet soldiers died during the ten-year Afghan campaign.) Fully 90% of them were drunken men, say officials."
... so 1800 Russian males have won the Darwin award and removed themselves from the gene pool and from competition for the delightful dyevs who were not drunken and did not drown. And think of the number of drunken men who must have gone into the river yet were not quite so unlucky as to drown!
Whenever we wonder why there are so many gorgeous, sexy, smart Russian women available and interested in Westerners like us, we just have to remember the drunks, losers and gopniks that they have to choose from at home.
Cheers,
GT

Again, your information is worthless, and I can't help but think that you're toying with all of us.

These pictures I made yesterday at 9 o'clock in the morning. I left for Red Square at 6, because it was so hot that I thought if I go out later I'll fry. Metro was full of people with suitcases, who rushed in the direction of Komsomolskaya where we have trains. Sunday morning. Noone sleeps. Airports didn't work properly because of bad visibility, but trains still run. At 6 the fog was grey, by 9 became yellow. Some people had masks, but few. I only saw 1 grandmother, but she ran so quickly that I couldn't capture.
Today fog disappeared. They promise by Wednesday cold weather +11C or so. But it's hard to believe. But we hope and don't mind some rain or snow.

Might I suggest that you have a look at Pizdyets' most excellent piece from a couple months back on his evening (rather late night early morning) Tochka adventure.

As the nature of the Tochka is that it is not permanently based anywhere, rather it floats in certain back ally Moscow neighborhoods, the report can not tell you exactly where to go. But it does capture beautifully the essence of the experience, its' uncertainties and, what I call in my blog piece about the report, < http://www.angusmagee.com/?p=51 > the Monger's soul.
