I tried to take the train this week having seen the shiny new terminal on my way into Moscow. After making my to the station i found that I had missed the 11am train and the next one was not till after 2pm. If you are going to use this service be careful and check the timing of trains.

Helena speaks the truth. The Aeroexpress terminal is GORGEOUS compared with SVO2. I had a few hours to kill when I came through on Monday night on the way to Turkmenistan so I took a stroll over to check it out. The walkway from the SVO2 terminal (departures level) is a 5 minute walk so if you don't have too much luggage it's a breeze. The walkway itself is covered with a temporary structure but you can see that they have plans for a permanent connection. There are all kinds of shops and cafes (even a Starbucks!!!!!!) and the place is DESERTED. Don't think it will stay that way though. When I came in last night, I had ordered a car so I didn't take the train itself. But the fucker parked the car underneath the Aeroexpress terminal so we had to walk all that way anyhow!!!!! Ha, ha. But the traffic was light last night at 8:00 PM so it was no biggie. But if you are coming or going from SVO during the rush hour, I would STRONGLY suggest that you consider taking the train from Savelovsky station....... unless of course you enjoy sitting in a car for an hour.

I arrive Dec 6 and in town until the 10th. You free on Saturday (6th) or Sunday (7th)? Monday or Tuesday OK too, but I have a gf in tow then.

Just saw this - I have been "off the net" in T-stan. Damn they REALLY have to do something about that. They are CRYING for a foreign Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Just arrived in Moscow last night after the "trip from hell" to Turkmenistan last week. Air France one lost bag and Turkish Airlines lost the other. But when I arrived in SVO last night - both bags were sitting there. Amazing. Hey - the Bez was right - the pussy in Turkmen land really is spicy.

Not sure, but if the construction project next to SVO-2 is supposed to be the new SVO-3, we could all grow old and die waiting for it to open.

That's assuming, of course, that they still have financing to finish it.

Nope, Terminal 3 isn't open yet, but they've reorganized Terminal 2 so that you hit security check right after check-in. So now it's like every other sane airport in the world, with the exception of the ad hoc homeless shelter in the corridors of the second floor.

Interesting... did you get a sense from any of these newly unemployed office workers about how they plan to support themselves? I mean, beyond hustling free drinks.

I'm finding a slight increase in 'ex-office-workers' in some clubs, concentrating their skills on picking up free drinks, ran into a couple on a sarge night with some friend, they got laid off recently and went out on the town to celebrate? Anyway long story short, digits from them all and took home the last woman standing.

Oh, and I noticed, the % of women telling their g-friends about whats going on. Much less than I've ever experienced in western society, as a result, I can date two girls that are friends yet they won't even tell each other? Cool!
