On a related note, Moscow is using metro cards now, not tokens, which you can buy at the metro station in a machine (overpriced) or at the kiosk. I think you can also buy them at the aeroexpress ticket office.

Don't recommend it for first-timers as the Moscow metro can be intimidating. I was going to call it a chaotic mess and an earthly manifestation of purgatory, but changed my mind. Be forewarned, the Moscow metro does NOT have English signs (and yes, the civilized, true cultural capital of Russia DOES).

The airport transfer at the hotel I'm staying at is 2500 rubles for comparison and the trip could take anywhere from 1-2 hours or longer, depending on traffic.
