Very real. Very well known. But very, very expensive. I would consider this group more of a modeling agency than an escort service. Metropol is a great location for recreation so you have that going for you. It's been a long time since I stayed there but back in the day the lobby girls were pretty decent and pretty available. At the risk of drawing criticism from the more experienced members of the board, a first trip to Moscow simply MUST include a trip to Night Flight. As I have written sooooo many times, make a dinner reservation midweek for about 9:00 PM. 10:00 PM upstairs. If you can snag a table close to the stairs, so much better. The food is great (but no cheap) and enjoy the view. After dinner (no sooner that 11:00 PM) take a wander down to he bar (because you had dinner the $35 entry is waived) and have a drink at the bar. It's not nearly as good as it once was but there are still some pretty fine babes for hire. Most will speak decent English so if your Russian skills are limited this is good way to start.

If you don't fancy taking one of these girls home with you and are interested in Moscow's version of a strip club, catch a taxi out front of Night Flight and go down to Aurora 911. They will undoubtedly have some of the finest looking strip girls you have ever seen. And from there it's a 5 minute walk to your hotel. There is sex available on-site so no problem there. All it takes is money.
