Any info on how to get real status on Mamba? I cannt get the code when I enter the phone number as I don't live in Russia. Also, most websites can be subscribed on monthly or yearly basis but it is very complicated to understand their subscription. Can someone explain it in easy language.

I had trouble with this too.

So I just wrote to their trouble desk / customer service and explained the problem and they adjusted me to Real status manually. I just they figure if you can write and e-mail that is real enough for their purposes.

In short, pretty much ANY international hotel will not bat an eye. However, that does not mean they will not notice. Be prepared for a phone call from the front desk when your "guest" reaches the lobby after her visit asking if everything is ok. They will "detain" the young lady while they inquire as to your well being. This is for YOUR protection so don't sweat it. Strangely enough the Hilton never seems to call. The Golden Apple ALWAYS calls, and with the Marriott it's hit and miss.

Russian hotels are a little more of a pain but are getting better. Best case is that they ask that you register your guest. Worst case is that they ask you to pay something extra.

If you have the budget, you can avoid the drama by just staying at a Western hotel like the Marriott or Hilton.

Actually, I have already stayed 2 times at the Sheraton Palace 3 years ago, and while bringing a lady friend, we were stopped near the elevator, the security gorilla looked at something in his logbook, and then let us proceed to our floor.

The reason why I am asking this question again is that I don't want to leave it on a hit-or-miss chance; since I always book for 2 people but the second guest is not registered I don't want to leave it at the mercy of the security guy.

I read on the forum that Marriot on Tverskaya is completely fuss-free; can you confirm w. Are. T. The above situation?

I will be going to Moscow in July for a week long business trip. I already got a few contacts from Mamba, but I was looking for a GF hotel in Moscow; the kind where if I take in 2 key cards, no questions asked who I bring with me in the evening for "coffee" to the room.

I was looking for a 4* or 5* with the regular chains like Marriot / Starwood / Intercontinental.

Any suggestions?

Previously reported: I used a non-Russian phone and the verification code appeared on my phone about 10 seconds later. Check that you have your international country codes correct. Perhaps try a few close variations (add + sign, maybe). Worked for me.

Yes, MAMBA is worth persevering with, even if you don't live in Russia, or go to Russia often. As there are many Russians living overseas! Hahaha.

Many thanks to the various contributors here, it sure has become a must-read source of information for potential mongers like myself. I've been getting my hopes up, especially after looking at some of the dosug adverts, and I intent to visit Russia (either Moscow or SPB) this month.

However, I'm a bit wary of going there alone since my knowledge of the Russian language is pretty much limited to the words 'njet' and 'glasnost'.
