Quick summary of a just completed trip to Russia. Primarily StPb, but also visited that "other" capital.

Used Airbnb to find an apartment and was very satisfied. Rented a comfortable studio for 63$ a night. Once I figured out the route, it was only abut a 10 minute (fast) walk to the nearest metro. Couple of small shops in the complex and then two very large markets a few minutes walk away. It was also on the 12th (top) floor and had a great view (with balcony). Highly recommend Airbnb for accomodations in StPb. Owners met me at the airport and helped me with the taxi to leave. It was 600 Rubles when I arrived and the owner gave me a ride, and 520 for the taxi ride back to Pulkovo at 5. 30 in the morning. Oh, and bye the way, the new terminal is sort of finished and all domestic and international flights now arrive there. It's pretty much a typical European style airport now. No more filling out immigration forms on the plane either. They are generated by a machine now after you hand the immigration officer your passport at Immigration Control.
