Can someone tell me how the invitation letter works?

What invitation letter???

No need to write a letter. If you are working with a travel agent who specializes in travel to Russia (I assume you are), then they should be able to get a visa invitation for you. I notice Oksana claims that she can do visa invites as well, so if you rent one of her apartments, or maybe even if you don't, she should be able to do that also. For a fee, of course.

If you stay with Oksana get to know her husband Chuck.

He was an early pioneer of Piter mongering scene and posted hundreds of pictures on the other site.

Funny thing is his pics are what got many of us headed towards Russia.

Chuck is a good guy and will be helpful in many ways.

Oksana has oksanas.net and nevsky88.com for apartments. Personally I prefer apartments to hotels. Probably because I would rather use the apartment price savings towards more pussy.

Yeah she was cute. But the picture on her website was taken in 1971.... Just kidding :-).

I never met Oksana, but one of her assistants is a petite blonde, around 165cm/45kg, maybe early 20s. She showed up in a short, pleated mini-skirt and high heels to deliver my passport. :-). I prefer to pay an extra couple bucks for good location and room quality.

If price is no object I like the Kempinski Moika 22, but it is pricey.

A good bargain is the Helevetia Suites.

Use various internet portals to shop prices, bargains are to be found.

IMO always look for something on Nevsky or one of the sidestreets not far from Nevsky.

Whereas I almost always stay in apartments in Moscow or Kiev, in Piter I often stay in hotels. In the winter they are fairly cheap (forget the summer) and every one I have been to has been girl-friendly. You can find very good places for around 120 euros if you shop around. Apartments are still better if you are staying for more than 2-3 days, but for short stays hotels are a solid option.

The general feeling in Russia equates cannabis with heroin.

I wouldn't go so far as to equate it with heroin in terms of image socially, actually bud is very popular among Russian youth and the noveau riche.

Nonetheless Guido is right, if you go around asking for it you are asking for trouble. If you meet some young people who "look the part" and with whom you can communicate, you may ask them.. but I certainly wouldn't recommend just asking around. Don't forget, you don't know anyone there.
