I'm planning some days in St. Petersburg (never been there before), and I've a couple of questions someone more experienced than me might help to solve.

Have you got any advice on "friendly" hotels where to stay? (I mean: hotels where girls will be allowed to come to my room without being harrassed with documents, questions, etc?).

The one time I stayed in SPB (one year ago last Ocotober) I stayed at the Prebaltiskaya Hotel and the lobby bar was crawling with hookers. And no, there was no trouble what-so-ever. As a rule of thumb, if you stay in a western chain hotel - Marriott, Sheraton, Westin, Raddiossson, etc you will not be hassled at all. Period. There are minor exceptions to that but not many. Of course, these hotels are a little more expensive than other but there you go. I have been to Russia and FSU about a dozen times and have NEVER had any trouble with girls coming to my room. In fact, I get more hassle in Brazil than I do in Russia. Of course, this also depends on the type of girl you come in with too.

With all the advices on ISG, I managed to sign up to rambler. Ru. Contacted a girl in St. Petersburg who promptly replied in instant message. Problem is that she wrote that her phone number is at a web address that starts with "znomerok" followed by some Russian letters, then her name in Russian. I can't find a site that starts with "znormerok" nor does my keyboard have easy access to Russian letters. With the use of Bablefish, I can understand what she is writing but I got stuck here. I'm encouraged that I made big progress but now I'm stuck. Any advice?

I would say that the Domino "option" worked the best for me. One time they sent me a non-English speaker and it worked out quite fine. Once you call them within 30minutes or so she is at your apartment. The driver that took me to the Photomodeli site, I used several times before and I got to be friendly with. I believe this was just a case of the Salon trying to make some extra cash seeing a foreigner. Last night of the trip, I took a duable girl from Magrib. Her English was quite good. Picked up some vine and went back to the apartment. Cute body and quite effectionate. During fingering was quite vocal and reached orgasm several times - this was no acting. Then realized that she was just finishing her period as the bed was quite soiled with blood. Quickly washed hands - Ugh, this happened to me several times before - just my luck.

Solution is to have the taxi get you to the door address then let him go and call the salon and have them come get you at the street. Does not take much Russian to do this. I am lucky if I speak 50 words.

Also wait until the girls line up and ask if any of the girls speak English or do anal or any other preferences. For me English is a nonessential as pretty with a hard body is much more important.

Knowing you were looking for English they may have decided to ask for a surcharge. Pretty rare that a salon tries to rip you off. Rovnak has lived in Piter for 3 or so years and he has reported this 1 time. If that was the case you did the correct thing and walked away.

You were staying in a walking proximity to 15 or more salons. The key is to be persistent. Call the same salon 6 times in a day and at some point an English speaker will pick up the phone. Takes some time, which can be difficult if you are in town working. Ordering off the Internet for home delivery is by far the easiest way to go. Dominos does a pretty good job.

Using information provided by Spangle, I called Photomodelli at Fontanka 109 and asked for "English" speaking girl. I asked for hourly rate and was told 2000 roubles - okay sounds good. Making my way to the location using local taxi, found the place exactly as Spangle reported. Line-up was provided of about 10 girls ranging from "non-acceptable" to about a 6. Chose one of the better ones and the mamochka asked for payment - gave her 2000 rouble and she asked for another 1500 rouble. Using my limited Russian I argued that I was told 2000 on the phone but to no avail - I was so pissed that they misled me that I left.

Magrib is still a big "zero" BUT I was able to score twice with nice "home delivery" using the Domino English speaking telephone.

Like most dating sites, members are not allowed to post telephone numbers and email addresses in their profiles. You'll also notice that working girls will not post prices in their profiles.

However, there are no such restictions when posting messages to each other, so a girl can quite easily tell you her telephone number when you chat with her. Essentially, on these sites you simply chat with the girl using a process that will be familiar if you've ever used instant messenger applications like MSN or ICQ.

You don't have the problem of making a 'cold' phone call, which will be virtually impossible anyway if you are unable to speak Russian, and she turns out to know little English. (The advantage of using these sites is that most of the details such as prices, times, addresses, etc, can be communicated in writing, with the phone call often being just a matter of you saying you've arrived at hers, or she at yours).

If the girl is online, then you can communicate in real time. (Look for orange script which transliterates as "Seichas na saite! " meaning "Now on the site"). Go to the girl's page. Just below the thumbnail pictures you will see a small pale green icon shaped like an envelope, next to the words "Napishite mne soobshchenie" ("write me a message"). Select this to open the messaging window, write your message and send it. You might be ask a P4P girl whether she's free now, does she do outcall, how much, etc. Or you might ask a regular girl how good her English is, etc, maybe leading up to a asking for a date.

If the girl is online, you may get a message back right away. If not, then it's a bit like email and you can pick up the reply later.

If she replies right away and you still have the messaging window open, it should refresh automatically, (though this does not always happen – there is a refresh button available). You may also hear a short chiming alert when you receive a message.

If you have closed the messaging window, or have just logged on, then all unread messages are indicated in brown script next to the 'My Contacts' link (located in the side panel which appears at the left of most pages. Refresh the pages often to see if you have recieved any new messages.

As you can receive messages while offline, it's usually the first thing to check for when you first log on. Clicking on the link will take you to a page where you can manage your contacts. You'll notice more four links to the right, these are four 'folders' for managing your contact list. The uppermost link is the 'General Folder' – this is the folder to which the page defaults, and where messages from members who are not in your 'Selected Users' (I. E. Favourites) list will appear. If you have received any messages, there will be a small brown numeral next to the name of the person and clicking on this will open the messaging window.

Yes, you are.

These are dating websites where you have to contact the girls and chat with them by messages. If they are pros they'll most likely send a canned email with telephone number and rates right away, otherwise if they are semi-pro or normal girls you'll have to chat with them a bit to get a phone number. It isn't an upfront prostitute site per se, however as Spangle correctly wrote, there are many pros on the site... about 10-20% of the "profiles" are from pros.
