Could any of the locals give us some suggestions on good hotels in Belgrade? I am interested in 4 or 5 star hotels near the center. I would appreciate any help.

Hey Jackson just a thought, since Kosovo got their independence, should we have a different slot for this new country. LOL, just my 2 cents. I know not much going on in Kosovo but its a start.

Airport departure. Relaxed and everyone friendly. Check in time I would say a maximium of 1 hour; at the boarding gate there is more security, do not rush to pass into the immediate boarding area for a flight, the rooms get packed and apart from one or two gates (used by foreign airlines) there are few seats and in winter they are cold and in summer hot.

Airport Arrival. To get a taxi into town avoid the drivers waiting outside customs area (they will want €30 to €40. Equivalent in Dinar. To go to centre) and go upstairs to the departure level and get a metered taxi. It will be about €15 to cente.

Hotels. Book ahead there is a shortage of hotels, Hotel Balkan €90. €130 is good; cheap hotels are €50 e. G Hotel Praag. The big hotels are in New Belgrade. But I've never stayed there.

Restaurants / bars. Plenty and good to excellent food. Steak is excellent, roasted lamb a speciality. Beer is good. Jelena or Nicksico (from Montenegro).

Safety. No problems, just take the same care as you would anywhere.

People. Friendly. English widely spoken.

But being there you will not feel like there is a surplus of women..They are very snobbish, arrogant, cold and materialistic. Forget about getting a lot of sex there!! Also in the clubs the ratio is usually 5 men to every woman.

Actually if I were you I wouldn't hesitate a minute.

The country has been at war for long and there is therefore a deficit in men population in this country. There are therefore close to 4 woman for a man in average and 1 to 7 in the big city says my counterpart there.

So it was FOC hunt frenzy for me in March there with a good score in the end.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'rough'. If you mean, is it a 'hardship posting' in foreign service terms then the answer is a definite 'NO'. Certainly Belgrade is a delightful city to live in. The people are charming, and the girls are gorgeous, even if some of them are "a little on the trashy side". OK, I'm being a little unkind, but there are certainly some very high maintenance, silicone enhanced ladies here if that's your taste. But it really is a nice place to live. Accommodation is a bit pricey if you want a modern apartment downtown (c. 15 Euro per sq metre per month), but eating out is very inexpensive and there are more excellent restaurants than you could shake a stick at. Don't hestitate - just come!

I, a US national have a decent possibility of being employed by a US corporation and sent to Serbia. Having read the State department sheet on it, I was wondering how rough it actually is there?
