I visited Belgrade just before the protests. It was cheap, around 130 euro return and it's only a 2 hour flight for me. Belgrade was a nice city, food was really good and accomodation and most stuff was cheaper than any other place I have been to in Europe. I did not take part in any paid action as I visited a girlfriend, but I had a good time, felt safe. Restaurants and bars closed at 11 PM. I would be interested in exploring Belgrade nightlife once this Corona thing is over and politics are more stable. To me the political situation is now too unstable in Serbia and especially Belgrade to recomend anybody going here for a while. The current leadership show low levels of democracy concerns and I think there are more reasons then just rising covid-19 rates that most EU countries ban Serbian residents into their countries and recomend not going there.

It's fair that you highlight your option and represent your business interests. Still, a word of caution, as: COVID treatment in Serbia may not always be up to the medical standards some would hope for, and even if successful it means getting stuck in the country for weeks at least.

It indeed is. Figures have dramatically risen again (or, as some argue, may have never been as low as stated before the elations). Serbian government (who initially and actually quite successfully introduced extended periods of curfew) wanted to re-introduce curfew this weekend, which resulted in riots in Belgrade. So they stopped that for the time being, however public gatherings have been limited to max 10 people, many shops have to be closed at 9 pm etc.

Yes, difficult to trust; and indeed there are a lot of loud and clear and presumably very credible claims that politics influenced media to report too-low figures ahead of elections. Meanwhile both the government media and the more government-critical media agree that figures really worsened.

Belgrade "riots" are joke comparing to those in America or some other countries. If you are a normal law abiding citizen everything will be okay. People who are normal law abiding citizens have no business going to protests, same like in America.

Those have been the most violent riots and protests in Belgrade for quite some time. Don't expect Belgrade police to kindly bring you to you hotel when you coincidentally get between the front lines. That hope won't become true in many countries, even less in Belgrade.

There is no curfew in Belgrade.

If government wouldn't have pulled back, we'd just be in curfew. And looking at the figures (and unfortunately, riots are also great for spreading COVID), there are good chances that at some point curfew, travel restrictions etc. May be reintroduced. That's when visitors will get stuck. Now, in many regards not a bad place to get stuck, but still.

Also be aware that many European countries consider re-introducing travel restrictions for countries where COVID19 figures are bad, with Serbia always high on the list; and similar thoughts in the US. So with a bit of bad luck, the visitor will be put in quarantine when returning. And just flying back to China. Won't work this easy nowadays.

I have arrived in Belgrade yesterday, from Budapest & the travel, on the border or through Belgrade was never more pleasant. Couple of minutes on the border & very easy / pleasant drive through the streets of Belgrade.

Still very limited international travel, so all fine on the borders. Traffic in Belgrade nearly back to pre-COVID times. Basically no whatsoever tourists though, so yes, being in Belgrade (putting aside the pandemic and political situation) is actually great at the moment.

I am in Belgrade to help a fellow monger who came to Belgrade from abroad just like me. We had a drink & a nice talk in the apartment he rented. From 22.5.2020 it is possible to enter Serbia freely. You do not need anything except a passport & visa, if you are from a country that need visa to enter Serbia, othervise passport only. The scene is even more hush-hush than before, but it is active and there are some young / beautiful girls who are available. Of course, now more than ever, you need to be connected.
