Riviera has been closed for many years, why even talk about it?

You bring up an excellent point and one that should be taken to heart by those not familiar with BCN. I have been in that area late at night and there are some streets off of La Rambla which are dark and deserted except for people who don't have your best interest at heart. It is easy to think you are taking a short-cut and end up on one of these dangerous side streets. If you are alone, only stay on the main streets and do what saved me. Fall in with a group of people.
