Here is my experience in the Club Riviera. I went on a Wednesday, which - according to one of the local Spanish guys - is a good day because the girl/boy ratio is more in our favour. More choice. The way they write them changes from one region to others.

As far I know, you should understand like these:

"Bajo" (singular) or "bajos" (plural), means floor-ground level.

"Principal", "entresuelo": first floor over the "bajo". These words are from S. XIX. Nowadays not very frecuently used, except maybe in Catalonia (Barcelona). So, the 1st floor is really the 2nd, if you begin to count from the ground.

Usually they say "level + door". In Madrid: 1st - A, B, C, etc... In Barcelona: 1st, 1ª, 2ª, etc...But in many places (i.e. Valencia) you only use the address + door number, 1, 2, 3 (so you won't be able to know the level).

The address is "Balmes 74th, 1st principal". Let me explain this a bit.

In Spain, the ground level is usually called "Bajos", therefore, if you see "Bajos 1st" (or, in Spanish, "Bajos 1a" or "Bajos 1ra." or "Bajos primera", that means it is the very first of all appartments.

The next floor level, that is, the first floor, is usually called "principal" or maybe "entresuelo", and then, the second floor, is called "first floor" in Spain. (But this is not a strict rule).

So, the appartment you are looking for, is on the first floor, first door. Normally they paint the door bell in red, or another color, or stick something.

The Spanish notation is "Primero Primera", or "Primero 1". Notice it is not "Door 1, Primero". First you say the floor, second the door.
