Area seems large (Malaga to Fuengirola should be 35-40 miles) so I suppose some transport has to be organized. Can rent car. I assume there are no hassles with this (drunk driving etc?). Public transport will not be practical?

Just two quick announcements (for the locals)

I will be taking my wife to the Cabopino beach this week and most of October (if weather is good enough) and probably we will go to Fuengirola- Torremolinos any Fri-Sat and quite likely that we have a few drinks in Evasióand and Kamelot.

That was a warning.
