I read the other reports and booked myself in at the Auditorium hotel at there special €66 rate (soon to rise to €170) and it was well positioned for Factory Air and Avion.

I arrived Factory Air at 7 pm(without advert which I could not find in local press), was let in for free but had to pay 8.5 for a coke and there were a large number of girls (about 30) but the price was 70 for half an hour and 150 for an hour and I could not get the price down. I was kept getting hit by an African girl promising the world and I liked the look of a Brazilian beuty but she refused to budge in price. So after looking over the place I decided to wonder over to Avion hotel.

At Avion you have to pay 16 Euro to go in which buys one drink. There were about 15 men and only 10 women. There was a beutiful blonde from Russia who wanted 150 Eu for an hour plus 20 for the room. All the rest were mediocre and I felt I had wasted my time and money coming over so decided to go back to Factory Air passing my hotel in both directions.

in Madrid. In fact, I just got back and saw two much simpler options. Simpler, that is, than travelling a fair distance out of the city to one of the large brothels.

First, there is a lot of SW action starting early in the afternoon. They are lined up on the street just off the Puerta del Sol, two east of Avenida preciosa. If you are at Puerta del sol, you can't miss this street. You walk it a couple blocks up to Gran Via, and you go through a crowd of them. I didn't approach them, so I don't know prices. Thank you once again to Chocho Negro. His directions are perfect, but I have a few things to add. I only went to Factory Air tonight (Avion will need to wait for another trip). Two straight nights up until 6AM at my favorite club in Jerez followed by working the next day has drained me in more ways than one.

First, let me give a big endorsement for using the Auditorium Hotel (http://www.hotelauditorium.com/) where I am now typing this post. Their flash-laden web site makes you think the hotel is nicer and cooler than it is, but it is still a very good place to stay. It’s not new but appears to have been refurbished very recently. As I mentioned the free Internet and shuttles to/from the city, subway and airport make it convenient. Combined with a 66-euro rate I got online, made this a real bargain. So for those of you passing thru Madrid for one night on a layover, this is a very good option if you want to be within close walking distance to two good clubs.

As for walking to Factory Air it is indeed close, it took me just 10 minutes. You can almost see FA from the hotel. The only problem is there is no sidewalk/pavement, you either walk along the access road paralleling the freeway or walk in the dirt and dust on the other side of the guardrail which I did. The cars come flying down the access road and it just didn’t feel safe walking on the road side of the guardrail on the shoulder.

However, just before you make the left to the road FA is on, the access road goes over an overpass and you then must walk in the road on the shoulder, a somewhat harrowing experience at midnight. I was wondering how many of the drivers coming at me were drunk as there was no way to get out of the way if they strayed onto the shoulder.

On the way back to the hotel, I opted to climb down and cross the lower road which is so new it’s not even open yet. When I did that I trashed my shoes but they cleaned up just fine.

I’m probably just over cautious, but I just had these thoughts of those cars running me down especially with my back to them on the way back. If it was daytime it’s probably OK but midnight on a Friday night is a little different.

Since the overpass thing is new it may be that when they are done there will be a safe way to walk to FA. As it is now, it’s probably safe enough. I don’t know if a cabbie would mind doing the quick trip either, it can’t be more than a 3 minute drive so the fare would be like 2 euros.

I was beat as I mentioned so I didn’t end up going to Avion so I can’t comment on that walk. Hopefully I will return soon to Madrid and make that walk and visit too.

Bottom Line: Hotel Auditorium is great place to stay for guys laying over at Madrid airport. Having 2 good clubs so close with all their free amenities makes it way better than Sofitel, though I will say that Sofitel is a lot nicer hotel. The airport shuttle came in one minute and leaves regularly from the hotel to the airport. I also rode the shuttle into town for drinks, tapas and dinner though it leaves only at 19:30 and 23:30.

Since I wrote so much whining about getting dusty shoes and being worried about getting hit I’ll do a separate post on the club.

When you leave your hotel you see in front of you a metal pedestrian bridge over the highway. DO NOT take this bridge, as it is a complicated walk to AVION on the other side of the highway, no pedestrian lane, no service lane, this bridge is only to get you to the bus stop, ... When leaving your hotel go right for about 600 meters (easy walk but not so good as to the left), and there you have another metal pedestrian bridge, you cross and you are at AVION, actually you see it already since you started walking, almost.
