Nothing can save you in Istanbul if you are unlucky. I was walking through one area (don't remember name now). There was this club with two guys at door. They asked to to come inside promising girl in broken English, I declined. Then suddenly other big guy lifts me by waist and I am inside within seconds. Inside two girls come quickly but I refuse to sit down or even approach the tables. Other guy is standing at door blocking it. They tell me to wait for manager who speak English and then I can leave. Manager arrives with bill for drink 400 Lira. Arguments were total futile. I take out my wallet to pay, wallet gets snatched. Fortunately, I had around 500 lira only. I ask for taxi fare and get 25 Lira left in wallet.

This is pure mugging with pretext of running clubs. And it seems nothing can prepare you for this.

Almost the same happened to me, I was addressed in a normal area by a guy talking about girls, was walking with him for a few meters, was then pushed into a coffee shop (not night club!) where there were some girls and guys. Spent a week in Turkey recently. Flew in and out of Istanbul, but spent most of my time in smaller cities in Turkey, which is a shame. Recently joined this site as this is my first opportunity overseas. I'll be staying in an area called Karakoy and I have a couple questions:
