I got scammed pretty decent last night. I met a fellow in Taksim and he said he wanted to go to a club nearby. This is a very common scam in Turkey. Rule number 1 always ask how much. Also always stay away from anyone offering you anything.

Another scam is as follows:

Taxi driver (or anyone for that matter) will tell you total charges are 35 Lira for example. You will take out a 100 bill and hand over to the taxi driver. In the blink of an eye he will wave 20 Lira bill and say. Total charge is 35. Please give 15 more please. You can argue and argue. It will not matter.

Always announce loudly what bill you are handing over to the person, keep the bill in your hand and let the taxi driver NOD and say yes. Or say I have this 100 Lira bill. Can you please return 65. Once he says yes and acknowledges the fact, then hand over the bill.
