I just came back from the Istanbul. I did stay in there for 1 week for business. First 3 nights in Aksaraya area and the last 4 nights in the Taksim.

I recommend Aksaraya if you are on a budget and want to buy all kind of cheap clothing etc, have fun with the street girls, get a decent cheap room and eat cheap. However this area is not for an unexperienced traveller as many people pull scams in here.
