OK, this economy is TOAST! The UAH is sitting around 700 to $100 usd.
But that is artificially held LOW for the time being. Mark my words, some of my 'students' that are in the know are predicting 1500 in the near term. 2009!
People here all took credit in USD, as the interest was lower. 500 to 1500 uah to the USD, 3 times larger loan payment.
Bye bye flat & car & even washing machine. They are CREDIT crazy here.

I've paid with USD's in shops that didn't take CC's but don't expect a good exchange rate.

Man, it is getting bad here. Just under the surface. Like a boiling pot of thick soup (surface seems calm).
Called on a business today about my rental. 200 people 45 days ago. 80 now!
Another contact. 20% gone last Monday.
Nothing is moving in real estate. No one is even working on 'job sites'.
People that have committed to loans in USD are fucked. There isn't any USD here.
Flats and offices will soon be sitting empty. Another friend, she lives off here rental income from a flat in Kyiv and a 'garage'. About $1,500 a month. As of the 15th dec. Both gone. Businesses that were in there are closed!
It is going down fast.

Quick question guys.
I'm off to Kiev for the first time next month. A lot of posts mention paying in US dollars. Is this just for comparison purposes or are US dollars accepted / expected?
Thanks

Posts: 334What many people seem to have lost here is that most deals here are doen in dollars not grevna so $100 will stay $100, not change against the exchange rate. They just always expect the GRVN equivalent. so as of today try 700 grevna!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drakkar,
The richer a woman is, the higher her expectations, her standoffishness, her snobbism and her nose!
The poorer, the more humble, modest, aproachable, nice!
So, make your own conclusions!

Thanks!

Emergency solution: In case, sold out, go to the train, and bribe the conductors controlling the tickets at the entry to the carriage. Only a question of $, they sell their own seats to you. In worst case, because the trip is about 3h max, you might be able to stand/sit in the walking area.
So no need to worry.
You can check the connections already in advance:
www.bahn.de
From (Von): Kiev
To (Nach): Vinnica
These time tables are very reliable.
