It basically comes down to individual qualities but not where he comes from and his skin color. I'm sure Danzel Washington can do better than some fat Billy Bob. But, it's a big but, if I were black, Arab, middle-eastern or Caucasian I'd go elsewhere. These folks might still fare well with the ladies in Ukraine but anyone who has a friggin penis can score there. Not to say that darker skinned folks aren't welcomed but on average, all else being equal, a lighter skinned person would do better. Imagine an Ukrainian girl's parents' reaction when their daughter brings home an Arab or African man. African Americans might do better than Africans. Being confident is good but a black or Arab man appears overly confident might cause trouble from drunks and militia. You don't want to stand out too much. You gotta know when to lay low. Don't mean to sound like a Klansman here but a healthy dose of reality is important for those contemplating a trip. So don't kid yourself that just being confident alone is enough. No it's not, wake up. Blacks might still be able to get girls but the local population sees them with suspision. Also, Caucacians or other folks that could be mistaken as one are not too popular in Russia now. I agree with previous poster(s) that the male population is what darer skinned folks should worry about. Anyways in general, ANY man can do better in Ukraine or Russia than in the West due to supply and demand. There are just too many women and too few men in Russland. Thanks guys for your input. I appreciate the honest replies. You know I guess there will be people who will always judge you if your from a certain place, color, religion or whatever. I think that is just part of human nature. I personally treat a person by character. Now if they have a fucked up character then yeah I might hate your ass. I used to be in the military and have had the opportunity to visit alot of countries. I never had any problem as far as guys messing with me or anything (maybe because I used to be a powerlifter and I am stocky). I have had strange looks and most of the time people want to talk to me because I am black and I am american. Usually it ends up in a good time. It does have something to do with "how" you go around. Black men from Africa don't "go around" like brothers in the hood do. In other words, you keep the lowest profile when you are out in public, if you want to avoid any hassles or worse. This works just the same way for farangs in non-tourist areas of the Orient, or crackers in non-tourist parts of Africa, so its really not a black thing, its about how much you stand out only from being a different race. Its impossible not to have people notice you, so you really have to behave in a very low key manner, or sooner or later somebody is going to fuck your shit up.

AU, you are correct, you cannot live in fear of what might or might not happen to you based on your race or ethnicity.

That being said, many of the locals especially those from or who live in the smaller towns and villages are at best naïve and uneducated when it comes to dealing with non-locals and at worst very prejudiced and hateful. Don't forget that until the fall of the USSR, a short 15 years ago, most outside of the major cities never actually saw or met a black or an Arab except on TV. They will also do an excellent job in hiding their true feelings from you to your face.

I won't even get into their main object of prejudice, any one of the various "Caucasian nationalities," or Central Asians who they meet everyday in the local markets and curse them all the way home with their purchases.

It also will not take much to set them off. The word "pogrom" is Russian and still stirs nightmares in many Ukrainian Jews. You should know that most Ukrainian Jews of that time looked, spoke, dressed and were no practically no different than their neighbors in Christian villages.

I do think that skinheads exist in Lugansk. They may not be large in numbers but they are there.

How you act and interact with locals will be the key. That applies to everyone, black, white, yellow, whatever.

However, even you expressed your concerns and reservations when you ended your post with the one word that reveals much - "yet."

Uke Boy, yes I am an arab american, and trust me, arabs are discriminated here and else where more than blacks. And you know why.

When I tell people here my parents migrated to America from an arab country, and I have arab blood in me. They are not very happy about it. And want to concentrate more on the american part of me

In the end it comes down to how you can handle the place and situation no matter what country we are in and what color of skin we have, we as men can't be scared of such things.

There is no skinhead movement in Lugansk. Because people here are not nationalist. They themselves hate ukraine and ukranian language, they consider themselves russian. 80% of the people here have either a russian mother or a russian father. Basically mixed breed.

I don't think that skinheads will ever exsit in Lugansk. Because skinheads are nationalist people who love their country and everything about it.

And I feel that if a person is confident and is well travelled should not have any problems having fun in a new country, if ones acts scared and lost ofcourse people will try to take advantage of him.

I think Jinks can hanlde himself quite well, my other african friends go around confident and without any worries. Because they don't have this fear in them neither are they complexed about the color of their skin and nothing wrong has happened with them yet.

What American Ukraine is telling you about the ladies here and their attitude towards men of color is more or less correct. They are intrigued and interested and you can be very successful.

The other side of the coin is the male of the species here. Skinhead activity is increasing and there recently has been a sharp increase in xenophobia and serious attacks on non-whites in Kiev and elsewhere.

American Ukraine is an Arab, not a Black man so he can more or less blend in locally where there are similar types such as Georgians or Armenians.

What you should do is speak with other Blacks about the the local circumstances here and make your decision. Mostly nothing happens but in the east, in Lugansk and elsewhere, I am not so sure.
