There is no need to be worried! Except of the changes in Visa rules there is nothing changed since the Orange revolution. And as a tourist in Ukraine you hardly notice the political situation in Ukraine. I travel to Ukraine every month for more then 4 years. I never noticed any difference! So don’t worry!

i've never had a problem in kiev at all, not even something that could have potentially been a problem. i've walked all over the city center late at night, occasionally a police car will slow down and then speed off - which i'm sure has a lot to do with the safety of the city center at night. i've been to the other side of the river during the day but never had any reason to spend time over there at night. the only problem i've had is that i lost my cool with a beggar once after a particular annoying date - the best course of action is to always completely ignore their existence.

i've heard stories of other's having problems. but they general put themselves in a situation where trouble finding them isn't all that hard.

An engineer with no exp could receive $5,000 a MONTH in Kiev, i.e. 60K a year there, as opposed to 50K in the US? Are you absolutely 100% sure?

Some of my Kiev employees are Ph Ds with breathtaking resumes and over 20 years of experience, and none of them are making more than a grand a month. Highly qualified people with less exp are deliriously happy to be making $600. I highly doubt an engineer could get 60K even in Moscow, much less in Kiev.

But in any case, in a city like Kiev you don't have to be rich to get women. Poverty is overwhelming. Not every girl can get a wealthy expat, but they all want a man. A Kiev buddy of mine gets laid like nobody's business, and he barely makes $200 a month. His usual date is buying two beers and drinking them in a park. He's never even been to any night clubs, and doesn't know anything about any Kiev hot spots. His dates are happy, and they're usually no worse looking than anything you can find at gia.

The interesting thing about Kiev (and a lot of other large cities in developing countries) is how some people make such large sums of money, while most of the professionals make lousy wages. I discussed this with my Russian teacher a little bit. Her English was at the Proficient level, and she taught most of the advanced English students at her school. She was working six days a week, twelve to thirteen hours a day with lunch on the run, an hour each way on public transportation - and she earned $700 a month. She said this was good money for a professional in Kiev. Bigger money is mostly made by corrupt businessmen (gangster types) and politicians. She had a lot of clients that worked for international companies in Kiev, and they were studying English because it was almost a neccesity to maintain or advance in their positions. I could tell she had aspirations to move on to a large company with the contacts she had made. However, she only expected to make $1,000 a month with some reduced hours (evenings off).

I talked with one of the Gia girls in Kiev about the clientele she serves. She said about two out of three clients are Ukrainian. I think the local rate for Gia is $100 for two hours. If the other girls are running at these percentages, I'd like to know what these locals do for a living.

Maybe if you hire on in a developed country, and then they move you there, you could make some good money. $1,000 a month is not going to get you a lot of women - something I would imagine is key to wanting to live in a city like this. Maybe some expats could educate us on this part of the experience.
