Someone once mentioned here Paribas bank which is exactly where I would go to withdraw cash. There's one across the street from the opera house up the block a bit. I recommend to go inside the bank where there is a cashier immediately to your right. Just hold up a piece of paper with the amount written down that you want and pass the cashier your passport and card. The atm's will dispense 500 grivna notes which are inconvenient. The cashier will give you whatever size bills you want.

By the way, I used my capital one debit card which charged no fees for atm withdrawals. Paribas charged me 75 grivna for 2500 grivna withdrawals at an exchange rate of 8. 1 to the dollar. Anybody know of a better deal out there with a Western backed bank?

Good advice, I will use DebetCard to withdraw grivnjas in the future and keep CredtCard in a safe place. BTW, If I pay with Hrivnjas girl will be happy to have 600, if I pay $ the same girl will expect 100, and if I pay €uro some will insist on 100, which means I will pay 70% more. (US$ 1:8, €uro 1:10) When I pay with dollars in bars I will be charged exchange fee and sometimes get no change back. And anyway, I have had to wait five minutes for the change, seems like at times they are waiting for you to leave. Based on some empiric facts.

And am wondering which part to stay at for mongering (RIO, Shooters, etc.). By the Hyatt or RIO? Also, the apartment company charges $38 for airport transfer is this good or should I wing it with a taxi? Will be in Kiev from nov 24. 26 and could use a wingman also. Thanks for your advice.

Try the MTC off 15 Khreshatic at the end of passage way. Lots of nice young kids that speak English. I can't remember what I paid, it was marginal and gave me a month of local calls.

I like the Rio area better, less congestion and militsia.

$38 is very fair for Borispol. I would not blindly take a taxi from Borispol. I would prefer to find my way to the metro just like the locals.

I've never had problems with CC pr. Chips in ATM's in Kiev, your problems only start if you go to the staff in the bank for withdrawal or exchange. Takes endless time, checking and double-checking, maybe expecting some 'oiling' in form of a little present. Or maybe I am not fair. Be careful with ATMs in the streets or supermarkets, it is safer to use those in the bank-corridors where there are cameras. After one of my visits to Kiev, I had several withdrawals from my card done in Kairo, where I have never been. Reclaimed by the bank in time and they anulled the withdrawals.
