I was trying to read the forum as far back as 2009, but I didn't see a lot about what you can do about using the phone. I won't be able to use my phone (from United States) because of the roaming. Should I just have a extra phone, and buy a SIM card when I arrive? Where could I do something like that, say at the airport or online. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am from Canada and I was told by my cell phone provider here that the romaning charges of using my Blackberry in Ukraine would be astronomical. I was quoted 2000 for one month, if you can believe that. I just bought a mobile in Budapest for 50 bucks and then got a SIM card with the help of a friend in Kiev. There are booth's everywhere in downtown Kiev around Independance Square. They are relatively cheap and easy to find. I am not sure if anyone will be able to help you in English so if possible bring a Russian speaker with you. However, it is possible to get a SIM card in another European country and it will work just fine in Kiev, at least in my experience.
