Has anyone seen or heard about this ukrainian "sand animator" video?

It's pretty remarkable artistry. Worth the 8 minutes to watch.

I understand this is Ukraine and all, but it wouldn't be logical to have the East as a designated zone for casinos to re- open.

I live in the east, and all casinos in my city have closed, a few may be operating on a covert manner, but I don't know one way or another, nor do I care, I didn't patronize them. Prostitution legalized, never, too many officials; elected and otherwise, would lose out on a whole lot of bribe money.
At the time the casinos closed the figure of people being made redundant as quoted by the pro gaming lobby was put at 300,000. This figure included all the ancillary businesses that supplied the industry and also took into account the thousands of slot machine arcades spread all over the country. People from within the gaming industry estimate that a more realistic total figure would be around 100,000. Whatever the true figure might be it was a staggering decision by the government to put so many people out of work in the middle of an economic crisis when they faced little prospect of finding alternative employment. In addition to this they lost the 400,000 Euro license fee paid by each casino and all the taxes for the tens of thousands of slot machines throughout Ukraine.

Many of those who were involved in gaming believe Julia came under pressure from Putin who did not want to see all that Russian money pouring into Kiev after the Russian casinos closed down from July 1st. In return he will be very supportive in the coming presidential elections.

But after all it's Ukraine and maybe there will be a new law ordering one casino on each 10 000 people. And who knows maybe prostitution will be legalized he he.

When the closing down of all gambling was first announced it was supposed to be throughout the whole of Ukraine. The Government announced that after 3 months ie: the end of September, they would then designate certain zones in the country where legal gambling could take place. The Crimea was rumoured to be top of the list for a designated gaming zone due to the obvious reason that it is a tourist destination. However as of now there has been no announcement from the Government as to where these zones will be, and with the Presidential elections coming in January it is unlikely they will concern themselves with any other matters until then.

The entire situation with regards to the closure of casinos in Ukraine is a complete fiasco. Many of the regions are continuing to operate with impunity mainly because the local mayor/chief of police etc is receiving a 'retainer'. In the capital Kiev some of the former licensed casinos are still in business, they text their customers inviting them to come and gamble. This is mainly done undercover, because as far as I know none of them have their outside signage switched on. It is rumoured that several of these casinos have shareholders who are Deputies, the same Deputies who voted for all the casinos to close ! Only in Ukraine.

Just to add. A girl I know in Moscow was working at a casino table.
The casino got closed but the owners started a illegal one somewhere around Moscow. Giving direction to their best clients etc. Most workers were invited to work there if they want. My friend accepted the offer and owners doubled her previous salary as compensation for possible arrest etc. Guess this will be the situation in Ukraine also. So the idea of former female casinos turning into prostitutes are not likely.

All casinos closed in Ukraine as of July 1st mainly because of a fire in a slot arcade in May which killed 10 people. The government seized the opportunity to close down all gambling in Ukraine thereby bringing the country in line with Putin's Russia who also closed down everything as of July 1st.

As for there being a chance with the ladies, the fact that they have lost their jobs does not guarantee the female casino workers will turn to prostitution.

If you want to exploit other peoples desperation in order to get laid perhaps you should take your fist full of dollars to Somalia.

    A non-mongering enquiry

I've been told that "Noblesse", a luxury watches ukrainian retail network (some 15 stores in Kiev) made currently clearance proposals with up to 60% discount on brands like IWC, Audemars Piguet, Cvstos (my brand of interest) and some others.

This only can justify the trip. Has anyone already dealed with them ?

    Thanks for any feedback.

A little good news bad news for you on this question. The bad news is that you are definitely overpaying for anything you buy at Besarabska Rynok, from caviar to anything and everything else. Even if you are good at haggling it will still be too much money. The good news with respect to caviar is that it is probably safe to buy and safe to eat, no small matter when it comes to fish eggs. They do not want foreigners getting sick from the food and then ruining this great profit making venture.

As for me, I usually buy mine from the local supermarket...knock wood, so far, so good. And definitely cheaper than Besarabska.
