So it's better to change the 100 and pay with hryvnias.

You're mistake was allowing the local bank to perform currency conversion. Assuming you have a decent card issuing bank, like Schwab, the card issuer will give a rate very close to wholesale mid-market rate (2468 uah per 100 usd currently, 2485 earlier today), at most off by 1%.

My approach has been explained repeatedly here on the Forum. There are 2 distinct advantages that make it somewhat easier for me: being native speaker of Russian (and now improving my Ukrainian), and traveling to Kiev frequently, but most importantly staying for long periods, usually 5 weeks at a time. Last visit was even longer. It would have been difficult to maintain my Harem, if I was there not so often.

Same with agencies. Some of the dispatchers attempt to treat me as a sex tourist, sending poorly qualified girls for my curbside casting. I send them back, occasionally even without 100 UAH taxi tip. Thank you for an honest post. The reality for most tourists will be a list of pros and semi pros. The day of helping a regular girl with a few bills is over. Kiev is swamped now by rich Ukrainians and rich Western kids. If you're over 40, your leverage of sponsoring is exponentially diminished every year. At 50, I find myself perceived as a pure target. You must have found the worst ATM's in the city then.

When I use ATM (Privatbank / Ukrsibbank) I get pretty good rate.

I will get marginal better with cash on street but then I need get USD / Euro from my home country where we not use them daily.
