I am back from Kiev a few days ago and wanted to comment on my trip.

A quick note on www.uaapartment.com that I have found excellent from airport service to the trendy appartment that was perfect to impress girls with everything needed from internet access, to hairdryer and soap for the washing machine !

Arena definetely seems to be the right place to see girls, however, if you do not speak Russian, it might not be that easy to pick up girls... You don’t need to buy dollars for Ukraine. There are many ATM’s in the different cities which you can use to get the local currency. In Kiev-centre you will find them almost every 50mtr. They work 24 hrs. You can pay everywhere in Hryvnia (say Grivna).

At the moment the exchange rate is $100-495 and for Euro €100-600. Every girl will also accept Grivna. So in my opinion you are better off by using the ATM. Then you don’t need to change your currency twice!

I’m going to Kiev for the first time next week. I’ll be working late some nights and early the next day so in some cases difficult to go out hunting so I want to use the call in services. Overall, am I better off to buy dollars before I go and pay the girls in dollars?

Also, are the ATMs open 24 hours, to pick up local currency after I arrive (my usual technique)? I’ll be flying in late on a Sunday night.

Just a word of caution, based on my experience in Moscow at renting apartments to sublet on a nightly basis, I will agree with you that if you plan to stay in any FSU city for any length of time it will be cost effective to rent an apartment on a long-term basis. HOWEVER, that said, for the average person coming to Moscow/Kiev/fill in the FSU city, it is virtually impossible to expect to find a "nice" apt and then deal with a RU/UA landlord. Apartments, especially ones in the lower price range are not up to Western standards and for the weak-hearted and weak-kneed, it is more than an adventure even looking at apartments and not even doing the lease... Westerners, unless very experienced, are not used to the RU/UA/FSU entrances, neighbors, customs and the like that will accompany living longer term in a Russian style apartment. It can be a great experience, but it can also be your worst nightmare as well. So, don't necessarily begrudge the company who is providing the apartments to Westerners on a nightly basis... at least if you have a problem you will know exactly who turn to!
