It is my undersganding that TSA locks work only in the USA. I could be wrong, but it was so when TSA locks first came out. TSA is an American agency anyway.

Not even in USA, years ago I had my bags locks broken even though they were TSA approved. What I do now is I travel only with carry on language, in Kiev I stay in apartment with washing machine so I can do laundry if needed, and to be honest most of the time in Kiev I am in my birthday suit. So I guess one should find away to have only carry on.

What do people do when they are poor and they don't want to work because there are a lot of foreign gentlemen? Easy to guess: they invent one thousands ways to scam them! That's something similar to the tale of the countryside mouse and the town mouse.

Case 1- Contacted, by Mamba site, a girl for 150 $/12 hours, she came in time, she was ten years older than pictures, I decided to give her half money now and half money tomorrow morning, she wanted all money immediately, I'll trying to convince her this the best deal for both, she wasted time with personal tales (time to think what to do) and phone calls (her boyfriend / manager) and slim cigarettes (cigarettes just less strong than narcotics), I realized she didn't want to work and she was awaiting to run away with my money and to go to her boyfriend near my apartment, I gave taxi money and sent her away.

Case 2 - Contacted, by a prostitute site, an usual abbess / manageress (who always receives orders from a male boss) at +3806xxxxxx41, I asked for a young, blue-eyed, big busty girl, she sent a girl by a private light-grey car license plate AI8138 BI (not a regular taxi), a girl got out, she was pretty old, blonde, eyes with blue-colored contact lenses, she wanted taxi money immediately, I gave it, she wanted sex money immediately to give it to the driver (try to guess: who is the driver? Then I catch taxi money from her hand like a cat, I sent her away, the car remained five minutes on the road, maybe the girl and the driver were talking about something was wrong, I am sure the driver said the typical bullshit of Slavic men.

Now I am dealing with some girls in Mamba site but they are revealing a low-end brothel that publishes profiles of beautiful girls as bait-and-switch / stalking horses / mirror for larks and then that low-end brothel sends worn-out girls who try to scam gentlemen as much as possible.

A word of warning to my fellow travellers.

I lost my luggage on a glight from Frankfurt to Kiev which I'm told is a common occurrence. Spent an hour asking questions and filling in forms etc. And eventually informed my bag is on the next flight.

Waited next day for a call to be told my bag will be delivered to my apartment. This was good news as I had not had a change of clothes for 2 days and the weather in Kiev is on the warm side.

So my bag arrives with the airport driver and I notice there is a plastic cable tie securing the zips on the bag.

Once inside my apartment to my dismay I also notice the one of metal zip fasteners has been tampered with and basically falls off the as I cut the plastic tag and open the TSA combination lock.

For anybody who does not know this TSA is a global standard that allows airport security to safely open locks using a special key without damaging the bag. It appears Ukrainian airport security do not possess such a key.

I'd been warned by my Ukrainian friends to carry my valuables with my hand luggage which I generally do no matter where I'm travelling except on this occasion I had packed a speedlight due to lack of space in my backpack.

To cut the long story short I am now a brand new speedlight, a pair of trousers and a bottle of shower gel short. OK times are hard financially here in Ukraine but shower gel?

Moral of the story: CARRY OUR VALUABLES WITH YOUR HAND LUGGAGE.

I'm now wondering whether the girls at the lost luggage desk are in league with this scam since they asked a lot of questions about the physical appearance of my bag before suddenly informing me my bag is on the next flight without as much as a look at a computer screen.

I was pretty careless with my stuff, especially with the one girl I saw everyday. I tended to leave my phone and wallet within easy reach. Nothing happened but it was still stupid. It is true that the majority of girls are honest and pretty cool, it really only takes one bad girl to ruin everything. I'll be more careful next time, though I want to do it in a non-insulting way.

I don't know. Perhaps he misplaced it somewhere. I find that the Kiev working girls so far have been honest and straight. At least, the girls I have been with were normal girls, but my one experience with a stripper was also very good. Especially if you have had a great time together.

Yes. A very basic advice. You don't need some safe or whatsoever, even a simple lockable sideboard does it. After all, she isn't alone for an extended time. Even your suitcase with one of these stupid TSA-locks will do the trick.

Also, I usually don't let them stay overnight (unless well known). Beside the joy to relax afterwards, it also takes any chance she could take while you're sleeping.).

I respectfully disagree. At least one million people take the metro every day. This includes people of all social classes, except the pretentious ones. Hordes of gorgeous, elegant ladies ride the metro every day. It is a great place for girl-watching. During the day, it is actually more convenient and faster than driving on the overcrowded surface roads. I take the metro every time I am there. Any girl who is too pretentious to take the metro, is probably too pretentious for me (and most of us.).

Oh, don't get me wrong, I really like the Kiev public transport. It's great, well working (OK, catching the right marshrutka is sometimes a bit confusing), and way better than most places in the world. Then again, I'm kind of a public transit nerd anyway. Heck, even had a friend one time arrange me a cab ride along the metro.

Then again, over all the years, I don't really remember many arranged girls to come other than by taxi. And usually these are normal cars. I got a habit to meet them downstairs, especially if it's someone I don't know. Feels more safe, and I get a good look at her before letting her in. On the way out they call 'their' drivers. When late, they may have to call a second or third number. Or even resort to some licenced taxi, but that's rather rare. I usually guide them on their way out again, so I get to see the way they leave. Can't remember anyone who went for Metro (especially considering that the Kiev system doesn't work 24 h).

If you give a girl 100 or 200 UAH for a "taxi", she will just take a 3 UAH metro and lose all respect for you. Before she arrives, she will already know that you are an idiot foreigner. In my experience, you bet better sex when a woman respects you.

That was fine like 3 years ago. Given, as a foreigner I may have to pay a premium, but the times of 30-50 Griwna runs are of the past. Not sure when you have been last time in Ukraine, but UAH has dropped quite low.

Until 2013 UAH / EUR was fairly stable around 1:10, a car ride within the city was anywhere between 20 and 50 UAH, depending on your haggling skills, so 2-5 Euro. Now it's more like 1:25 and prices have risen accordingly, so paying 100 UAH for a trip like Left Beach to Besarabsky is still about 4 EUR.

It's the same as with the girls. Even the 5's have way passed the 1200 Griwna scale by now.

Well, for sure I have no idea about your experience in and about Ukraine, at least for transportation it seams you haven't spend much time with ordinary people. This is not NYC or Munich. Not even Istanbul, it's FSU. A place where licenced cabs are a rather new development. If you're still in Kiev, just take a stroll along any road and watch the people. You'll soon spot how it works.

And yes, I did / do spend considerable time in FSU. For business and pleasure - 'till now I had the impression most of my contacts are rather ordinary people. Including family and close friends.

Now, I give you that there are not many foreigners who do know the habits. But if you're visiting, you shouldn't expect everything to run like in your home country. Be open to your host country and show a minimum of respect.

A friend of mine visited Kiev for 3 days, I told him to stay away from strip clubs and try night clubs, hes good looking.

We have been accustomed of banks and airlines nickel and dime us to death, but we hate banks and airlines. We would like to screw them, but only metaphorically, not literally. The price of sex should cover all associated expenses, like transportation and condoms.

Man, that's extreme rude. Taking the Metro is considered low. And way low beyond anything expected of a foreigner to think of. Real Ladies don't take the metro. That's for old babushkas.

It's good to look for your money, but not taking a (private) taxi in Kiew produces you as a super-cheapnik. You've promised to pay her some large sum money to stay with you, and even before it starts, you're unable to cover some minimum expense? Even in business terms that's suspicious, and for sure not a way to treat someone where you expect a good experience afterwards. Asking her about taking the metro has been quite an insult and with 'not hearing' your question, she just played cool. Treat her with _some_ respect.

Serious, 100-200 Griwna for a taxi is fine for most inner city routes, not any kind of scam. And thinking about it, I guess she felt for sure more safe to find any way to pay the driver later on, than to stay. Maybe he got to taste her for the ride.
