I disagree with you Mark.

If you go to any city in the world without doing the right research and without making the right preparations, chances are, you'll fail. Especially if you don't speak the language.

Add to that, the typical outlook and attitude of the average Kiev dyev (cold on the outside, but easy enough to warm up if you know what you're doing) and it makes preparation doubly important. So to me, your comments don't ring true and give an unfair impression to people heading here to research and prepare.

And part of what this forum is about, is earning from others mistakes. Sounds like you made mistakes there (buying a house not withstanding ) and I've certainly made more than my fare share there, luckily they only cost me time and not (too much) money.

So here's what I learned when it comes to being a newbie in Kiev after P4P:

BEFORE YOU GO

1) Mamba/Flirt is your friend. You don't need to know Russian, but you need to know how to be nice and polite, gets you a lot further and gets you more replies. Take as many numbers as your phone can hold, because you're going to need them (girls are notoriously flaky to get hold of, they either don't answer or they say they'll come and then don't, or they're just fantastically late!). Rule of thumb, when you think you have enough numbers, double it, and that might just get you through the first few days.

Only get the numbers of girls you know speak English (assuming you don't speak Russian), because otherwise they'll just hang up on you.

2) First time you go to Kiev, book an apartment and not a hotel, and have the apartment company pick you up (less hassle getting past the taxi scalpers). Apartments are generally quite nice, much much cheaper than the average hotels and have a kitchen and fridge which will come in very useful.

3) Brush up on what bars/clubs to go to. No point going to Buddha Bar or Arena hoping to pick up some cheap studentka, the posh bars have the posh brass, simples. I personally like the Caribbean Club, Barsky and Shooters (which is an excellent "first" bar to try, but get there past midnight). Patipa and D'Lux are places you go after you've secured your girl for the night (imho), if you want to score there, expect to pay dearly.

4) Learn the basic Russian words everyone should know (hello, please, thanks, the bill please, beer please, sex please), it's not difficult and it helps make people a little warmer towards you.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE

1) Make sure that before the apartment check-in person leaves, you have your wireless working, it's your lifeline.

2) Head to a metro station which usually has a phone shop/kiosk and get yourself a local Sim card, this will be your lifeline. Using your own phone is offensively expensive, avoid.

3) Head to the local supermarket, where you can pick up beer, wine, sausages, vodka, caviar and most basic food supplies for a quarter of the price of most European countries. Fill your fridge, the girls I know always eat after sex.

Another tip, the Ukrainian/Georgian champagne is probably less than $10 a pop but it gets treated like the real thing, never had a girl say no to it. Uke boy or Irish Lad can probably say what it's called.

4) If a girl gives you a price, it's the price she wants, not the price she expects. Haggle. In my experience, girls have no respect for guys who are happy to go at any price. But don't haggle too hard, girls don't like a cheapskate, they have those at home.

5) You don't have to be particularly nice to a girl you're paying to screw, and plenty of guys going to kiev for P4P aren't, but the nicer, more polite and more gentlemanly you are, the better your experience will be.

Mostly it's common sense and not 'advice' per se, but if someone had told me all of this before i first went, I'd have certainly got to the good stuff quicker.

I can understand you have experienced numerous rejections from Ukrainian girls (especially in Yalta, which you describe as the worst place for Westerns to go to). Have you sold your apartments in Ukraine? Maybe it will be a good idea to bite the bullet, sell the apartments and accept the loss. At least you will no longer have any obligations in Ukraine and can fully focus your attention on other areas, i.e. Morocco, which you recommend other mongers to go to.

You haven’t made a report from your Agadir trip. You just write that you “had no problem meeting freebies” and “If P4P is ok, nightclubs are full with models. For 50 dollars, you can have the girl of your dream”. It all sounds very good, but without a report or any photos to back up your words I have a very hard time to take you seriously.

600 $ for a night/day is not a little bit too much, it’s way too much.

Gia currently has 21 girls on their website, but not all girls are available. On my very first trip to Kiev I was with a Gia girl. She told me some of the profiles are obsolete, simply because the girls are no longer working for the agency. If you ask for one of these girls the agency will tell you she's “out of town”, “on holiday” or has her “lady days”. I’m quite sure this is still the situation, even though it is now 7 months ago I used Gia.

If you can’t find freebies or cheaper girls on Mamba or in the night clubs and your only option is Gia, I suggest you book a girl for a couple of hours and then arrange a new meeting with her, not involving the agency. Some of the girls will deny, but I’m sure most girls will agree.

as christmas times is coming closer and free time is available, i was preparing for a little stint to kiev again. after spending the usual hours on flirt i am not so sure if i will be going anymore. in my head kiev is ruined as a monger destination, period. the quality is not there anymore and i am not e cheap skate, but we just have to face it, paying 3-500 dollars for a couple of hours contributing to the payment for a new nokia vertu is just plane stupid in a country where a md makes 200 dollars a month.

Ok, so I left Kiev on vacation for a week and ended up staying gone for 2 months nearly and will be returning there broke and in threadbare clothing in a few nights. It sucks that I either have money for the nice hotel or money for the nice girl, not both.

... I would say. Here in the province 10$/h is the reasonable price, plus expenses. Kiev always has quite some % on top, and in your case taxi is included. You should only be careful regarding the place for lunch or dinner. At least here in my place several higher class restaurants have a payback scheme for the girls working as translators oder "Professional Brides" (women, who rip off the clients of the marriage agencies).
Depending upon your intensions regarding her, a Big Mac will be the safest bet, or test her and let her choose a "simple restaurant".
You will have the right feeling, if the price is OK then or not.
Good luck. Try to get tickets for the opera. Ballet in Kiev is not the top class standard like in Moscow or even St. Petersburg, but "Nutcracker" or "Swanlake" will always be a real expirience. And opera finishes before the night action starts :-)

Fake is about right!. I cannot even imagine what would happen if Ukrainians were allowed into Europe- thousands of people looking for work in Germany and not finding it. If UA meets certain conditions like introduction of Biometric Passports& fight drug & Human Trade, then Free Visa Travel will be introduced in 2011 for Short stays for UA citizens going to the EU.

I think this is a sweetner as well to influence the holding of free & democratic Elections in UA in 2012.

Hoping pro EU parties will win the elections then, much the same way as was the case in Serbia & recently Moldova.
