Day 5 was mostly uneventful. Was up until after 4 in the morning the night before after only 4 hours sleep the night before that so I tried to get some sleep during the day with a little success.

Bucarest is also much cheaper than Kiev. A mojito costs some 7 € at Bamboo, one of the most glam and trendy club in town. Anyway anywhere in the world, the lifestyle of dating girls, going out to bars and clubs, buying drinks or eating in restaurants all the time cost money and adds up quickly.

Tashkent is undoubtedly the cheapest destination in FSU, and from what I have heard and read here recently, Minsk is currently the best deal in EE. Belgrade is dirt cheap also.

I agree that prices are reasonably comparable to western European cities. I am not trying to be adversarial at all. I am just saying if the entire point of visiting Ukraine is inexpensive P4P, then one should consider other costs and destinations, as well.

I am actually staying in an apartment with its outside door in the Passage (15 kreshatik). The owner of the apartment I am renting told me about the grocery store you are talking about so I have been going there for my basic needs. As far as I can tell, the only western chip they have is Lay's potato chips. Thanks for the tip though.
