Apartments really shouldn't raise an eyebrow with your boss, even for a short-term visit. The cost difference is huge and I've found the subsequent savings are more likely to get you praise than raise any issues. I travel most months to Kiev for work and part of the reason I pick up and retain a lot of the work I get is because I bring in my travel costs so much lower than other people. If people do ask why you can genuinely say it's just a different culture here regarding hotels / apartment, which is true.

Vs the Hyatt, Premier Palace et al, you'll save something like a minimum of $300 per night even before you get into room service, internet charges etc. There are several solid apartment companies out there and you just need to make sure they check the internet is all set-up and working before your driver disappears. Ignoring the obvious fringe benefits, I genuinely find it a better environment to work in.

I see your point, and clearly apartments are a cost-effective option when compared with the Premier Palace, but I will never stay at such expensive places; Hotels like the Rus are pretty cheap already, I am not sure an apartment would allow me to save some more money. I could have rented a flat for $50-60 a night, but wanted something a little more upscale, but the cost was still reasonable at $100+ or so.

Women: Ukrainian women are very beautiful, and rank in line with their Belarusian and Russian counterparts. Their personality are somewhat different, but overall, they're all the typical Soviet Union standard. The P4P women are a lot better looking than what you can find in the USA and if you're not foolish, a lot cheaper than them too. The freebies (especially in the 21-35) range, for the most part are mainly interested in someone within their age range. A little older is okay. Speaking Russian to some degree is important. Arena Club. I went to the dance club, not the strip club on the higher level. It was very crowded with pretty good house / techno music if you are into that. A lot of 20 and 30-somethings dancing away. I was with a girl there, so I didn't check out the scene too much. There could have been workers near the bar area. Just want to echo the comments for Insomniaque: his report will be of great benefit to many I believe. It paints the picture as it is, and serves as a warning as Uke Boy has said, for most of us to stay away from the suburbs. Being also from the stupid / adventurous branch of mankind, I cannot resist an odd trip to the left bank in search of unpicked cherries, or at least slightly less hammered. I've been to clubs (Tato, X-club and a couple I forgot the name of). But generally the locals do stare (and I am white) and even in a club you feel more vulnerable, even if with a wingman.
