I have just arrived to Kiev, and will study Russian here for a year.

Getting There from London.

Living in the mother of all European cities, with due respect to all the other ones. One gets the pick of air fares to various corners of Europe.

Being a cheapskate when it come to flying, I got hold of a cheap fare on a budget airline, which started flying from London Layton airport to Kiev Parasol Airport, for the grand sum of £105 return. With priority boarding included. www.wizzair.com

Landing In Kiev

After a smooth 3 hour flight, I arrive on a beautiful sunny day at Kiev airport, and thank god UK citizens do not visas, otherwise that would have put me off.

After clearing customs I head straight to the Kiev Star shop on the left hand side, and the very helpful girl loads my phone with the sim card and air time. THE Total comes to 50 grivnas.

Then I change some some money at the exchange counter about 13 ah to the £ or 8.40 to the $.

Then the fun starts with all the taxi touts there, and I manage to negotiate a fare of 180 UAH to my Kiev hotel. They were all quoting 200UAH. Once in the car my driver Alix (why all Kiev drivers are called Alix? )

Starts chatting away with some basic English, and I get him to phone some of the girls on my list from flirt.com.

The first girl on my list with a porn star look by the screen name of Love20, is out till 11pm according to the woman who answered the phone.

Accommodation in Kiev.

Having had a bad experience with renting an apartment in Kaunas Lithuania. I went against the conventional wisdom, and booked a room direct with Restock Hotel right on Kreschatik St and next to Buddha Bar.

Very glad I made this choice. Very friendly helpful staff, 24 hour bar on the ground floor, and a great location, and you have buffet breakfast till 11am.

WENT back to my hotel and asked reception for a taxi co and they recommended BOCC Taxi, and they do a pre quote for you and you just pay the driver on arrival

Taxi turns up on time a friendly driver no English, and I get his phone no for the return trip back to my hotel, having read the taxi mafia outside charging between 100 to 150 for a short ride.

MY trip from Kreschatik Hotel to rp coasted me as per the pre quote 25UAH. So I gave him 30 and he was very happy.

River Palace. Went inside, and I was overwhelmed by the all the candy on display and all the beauty trying to catch my eye and chatting me up.

BEFORE I left London I was determined not to pay $300 no matter how beautiful the girl is, but I have to say the temptation was great, but I stuck to my wallet.

MY approach in River Palace was to take my time and not appear too keen, and soon prices were dropping to $200, and even had a pair offering themselves for $250 for a couple of hours.

So the total was 176 for nearly 3and a half hours driving and waiting.

Gave the driver 200 UAH and he was very happy. This worked out much cheaper than booking sightseeing through the hotel.

Night time second day was a lot easier, having sorted out my getting around means of transportation. Called on Rio club, I have to say the girls were some of the best looking I have seen. A nice club not pushy and not a rip off.

MY next stop was the strip club in Ukrainian hotel, went inside didn't look much so I left for Millinium in Dnipro hotel.100 to get in and 400 UAH for a private dance, and apart from me there was one other couple.

I am posting all these details about fares and what to expect for the benefit of newbies who might land in Kiev soon, and so, may find this useful, as getting around a widely spread out city with little English being spoken, could be time and money consuming costly exercise.

The return journey to the airport was 130 grivnas, but the driver was an asshole, so I didn't bother to tip him

My Verdict. Kiev is one of the greatest places for a mongering holiday with some of the most beautiful girls in the world, and the timing was right for me in terms of airfares and the exchange rate nearly 14 to the £, compared to nearly 10 last year.

Will I go there again?

Day 1 Kiev June Trip (Part I)

This was my first time to Kiev. I travel to Europe a lot for business and decided to add a few days of R&R. I went based on a recommendation of a friend of mine who said he had a good time there in 2008.
