The standard of living has actually fallen and there are a lot of illegal guns out there, you can get stuff like grenades, rifles and ammo fairly easily. You know, the crime is a direct function of poverty and opportunity.

You know Kiev is a dangerous place these days! Anyone who comes here do put his / her life at risk.

If you see a political rally or a group of soldiers / policemen meeting, just keep walking for your safety as they are often drunk and aggressive and you'll be OK for the most part.

In the wee hours of the morning, I woke up smelling something burning; so I went to the kitchen to check.

Kitchen was ok.

The air in Kiev smells heavily burned!

This morning, the landlord told me to stay in the apartment and don't go outside!
