You made my point. You were lucky, many are not so lucky. Yes, scams can be avoided if you know what you are doing and you have some common sense. Odessa is not a place for a Newbie. You are correct it is beautiful, just like Kiev, but there is just too many scams.

Plenty of reports of similar scams here in the ST Petersburg forum, I had it tried in China, Philippines, Mongolia and Tanzania. It really is not that difficult to avoid and certainly not a reason to avoid Kiev or Odessa. I just say I want to have sex, not a drink, and if you get resistance then you will get resistance after spending a lot of money on booze or worse get drugged and cleaned out.

For calling taxis I used uber and bolt with the free internet at the airport. Simcards available in all telecom shops. Trip to city shouldn't cost more than 200 uah. 30 uah taxi will charge for entering airport zone.

The big scam I got 2 nights in a row is coming from tinder girls: they are inviting you to a disco north of the city called stereo disco.

Address: Dobrovol's'koho Ave, Odesa, Odessa Oblast, 65000.

Just google it to read other people's comments.

What happened to me is that I got in contact through tinder with some nice girl and she is proposing to meet her friend in a disco (without telling the name) and we went halfway and I smelled the scam we returned dropping girl at her home.

Second time I finished partying and another girl proposed me again from tinder to go to a disco saying her newly met friend is waiting for us in the taxi. Same story but this time I want till the door of the place to see it myself. The girl even paid for the taxi. And the end it refused to enter and took the taxi back to city center.

At the end of the story good ending the taxi driver (not uber or bolt but one with taxi sign) gave me some numbers of pro-girls.

What a tale. Feels like me in 20,25 years. As I read it I wistfully thought of my past 10,15 years of travel to Ukraine (and many other countries) and felt, if can be honest a ting of sadness also. Wondering of all the girls met and left was not one of them sufficient to move forward with or what exactly am I looking for other than a momentary good time. My university student wingman / translator eventually became my lover not withstanding a significant age gap. She then proceeded to really fill me in on every part of the agencies. A surprising amount of the "Professional Daters" in Odessa, understanding I was staying for months and not just a week, then made an effort to give me their phone numbers and would date with me outside the system. Many told me point blank at that time they wanted to marry a young fit local guy and have kids, not to move overseas. I've stayed in touch with as many as possible, Birthdays, Christmas etc. And this is where being nice to people can pay off. Now I discover I have a long game in play where these young professional daters of 10 -15 years ago, now find themselves divorced, single moms and remember the older Western guy that treated them well, with respect and they felt safe with. Bingo. My email blows up every May with girls I already know asking if I will be coming to spend the season in Odessa as usual, because they're interested to spend time together. Happy Days, as I honestly can not be interested in the chase anymore. As I've got older I have found I really need a mental connection to function at my best sexually. I need the full GFE, need to feel the girl actually wants to be with me. The lower end practitioners of the craft leave me cold with their lack of warmth and affection. The whole no kissing thing is a big turn off for me, as is refusing BBBJ and Dinner at the why, because I like a lot of oral stimulation, both giving and receiving. 2020 brought a young friend back into my life who is 29. She had just finished a 4 year relationship with a young German guy. Having previously told me I was too old for her, and she had put some effort into introducing me to her older girlfriends, so I did not expect any physical relationship. I made the mistake of travelling back to Australia in Oct, where I did my 14 days compulsory Quarantine Detention guarded by the Police at a 5* Hotel. Now all Australian Citizens are now banned from leaving (without a special exemption) so it might be a while until I can get back to crank it up in person rather than video chats and Viber.

Having spent so much time in Cali learning spanish / salsa I know what you mean. Such a great city but got to search so hard to find the talent of Medellin. Odessa is the same compared to Kiev, most of the hot vacationing girls in Odessa are living in Kiev anyways. But that said Odessa is a really pleasant place to stay.

Thank you so much for this post. Now I know to stay away from odessa (and warsaw) and just focus my precious 2 months on Kiev, belgrade, and bucharest. Odessa and warsaw both sound like the functional equivalent of Cali in Colombia. It wasnt bad, but there simply isn't any talent there. Its really medellin or bust. To stretch this comparative south american analogy even further, its really only rio, paulo, medellin, or bust. In other words, the talent is concentrating to fewer places. And only getting moreso that way (which makes sense in a number of ways).

I'm sure the younger, fitter, richer, smarter, more talented, and better looking members of this forum will staunchly disagree with me and that's ok, god bless 'them!
