A couple of years ago I was accused of being involved with OES because I recommended it too much. However, that was in the days when California Traveller and Anton was running the place. In my opinion it was at that time an outstanding agency for apartment rental.

The excellent service of those days, including phone numers to girls) are now far gone. Recently there have been frequent complaints, promises are not kept. The owner has also problems with the legal system in Ukraine for neglecting most legal issues of his business).

SO TRUE! Its the usual excuses after one date. I am not sure why they even agree one date! Perhaps they want to know if you will be of "any use to them" and if not they discard you like trash.

Sorry ash. I have to agree with Lenka Penka. I am right now in Nikolaiev and can't wait to get out of here. This is basically a suburb of Odessa, most girls I talked to have been there, and I guess the miserable odessa attitude has rubbed off on them (they are very cold, will turn down your offers to know them and will give you fake phone numbers.

What they will gladly accept is to have dinner or expensive cocktails on your account! They will even bring along a friend or two

But at the end of the evening it will be: "thank you so much for the lovely evening but I am not a suka (prostitute) to go home with you".

Mr Penka, I totally agree that ODS sucks in terms of attitude. The quality (of freebies in clubs) is also quite a lot lower than the Kiev clubs unless you wait till Summer when the place gets flooded. The attitude then will be unbearable.

NIK, on the other hand, I found to be a different story. Sovietskaya on a Summer week end evening is a cornucopia of approachable student types. Very friendly, very nice.

Two cities quite close together seem totally unrelated and disconnected.

Monarch Club at top Soveitskaya has 1-2 girls available. Rate them about 7/10. They are near the bar inside.in a city of 0. 5m? People. It really shows you the (lack of) quality. I believe you can also ask the Doorman at the Hotel Interkontinental (opposite side of road as Monarch maybe owned by same people).

However quality is poor even amonst the normal girls the 8 or 9's are rare and locals have told me most have left for bigger cities and opportunities.

Lenka Penka is sort of right re. the amount and style of tourists in ODS. And they will get more and more.

Yes some of the girls are so snobbish that they should get a price for that.

But it's not that you can't find any (see previous report).

Go to Arkadya Sat. night in summer or to Yo, Palladium, etc. during winter and you should be able to find something.

Or ask reception, most of them can help. Some hotels charge you for a guest (Ayvazovsky), but most others don't.

You could also visit the X-Club strip bar and try to get a phone # during a lap dance and agree about next afternoon for a decent rate. Haven't tried there, but in many other places in CIS.

And yes, Nikolaev is grey Soviet style, I avoid staying there. Go on to Kherson however and the world is different again

Apartment is $60/night. Very central but basic without even a washing machine.
I know longer term would be much cheaper but as I am only here two days.

Checked out a Sauna - girls are 6-7 maximum, substandard and the inclusive (of sauna) price $100/hour. Thats crazy for such a city! Heck in Kiev I can get a first rate girl dostavka for that!

Otherwise the city is pretty dead. Girls remind me much more of a provincial Russian City than Odessa - no supermodel types roaming Sovietskaya here (or not today at least).

Speaking English is actually an advantage over speaking Russian here. When speaking Russian to the chicks I get miserable stares and responses - speaking English (my native language) gets a lot more smiles, even from those who don't understand much!

I am new to this forum although I am new to Ukraine also I have spent many years in Moscow (Work related) and the CIS, and am British. I also studied Russian at University and can speak Russian and even some Ukrainian Dialect (its very similar). I am totally familiar with Russia and I find Odessa kind of unusual in that its out of the way for most Westerners and yet many find their way here. In Chisinau for example you will see almost zero tourism and its only 4hrs way (+border check time).

However, in my week here, all I have seen is zillions of American (and a few European) middle aged men - who are identifiable from a mile away by their walk, gaze and totally fazed look as well as lack of dress sense

Odessa is frankly saturated with Sex Tourists from the West, and the ones I have met in the Irish Bar have told me that women from Odessa are stuck-up and give them dirty looks. It doesn't surprise me really. They can spot this type of monger a mile off. Most if not all know not even one word of Russian!! Its unbelievable.

I'm going deep deep inland (just come from Bucharest to Chisinau Moldova by overnight train and bus from Chisinau via Transdnestria to Odessa) before heading for the crimea.

Be warned - Odessa has more tourists than you will ever likely believe.

Odessa is kind of tricky in these things. I am doing ODS for 9 years now, and believe or not, my start point for so many years was a gang of 3 chicks which are in my top 10 century score in CIS. You are right with what you say in terms of attitude. Simplt because this is a port city and so much mixed blood.
