Hello. Planning on a trip to Zhytomir. Any advice on town hot spots, contacts, agencies, hotels, etc?

I actually moved there from Kyiv last March '07. Stayed until June. The main street is Kyivskaya. There is an ok hotel on thi street with a decent Armenian cafe. There is a fun open bar/cafe called 3-gooses. Many 20' somethings there. There are 2 sushi places that each have a disco, fun but young crowd.

I had some problems approaching the ladies (I usually go after the free ones), they were very cautious. Found out later that 6 months prior there was an American living there that favored young boys, definately made it harder.

There is a street. Mykalivskaya. That is perpendicular to the main st. And it is closed. I had good success there in the open kafes.

You will love the prices! Nice 2 room in center was $300/mo. Taxi almost anywhere. 8 grivna. Myself and 2 ladies in open kafe, 3 pivos, 1 cognac, meat & chesse plate, 4 wines and 2 big ice creams. 54 grivna!

Most at that time were making $100 or less per month!

They also have a Hydro-Park that has a nice bar/cafe and the beach is ok!

The information by the post is inaccurate.I have been in hotel Ternopil.

1.Ternopil has 206000 inhabitants on paper.Most have immigrated,so it seems more like a city with less than 100000 people.You see very few girls walking on the street.In comparison Uzhgorod with 105000 officially seems like a big city,there is much bigger density of girls on the streets.

2.Ternopil is an awful city for mongers.There are only 3 discos,2 of them are very,very small,so you cannot pass unnoticed and disco Alligator which is big and modern does not offer opportunities cause all girls are in big companies and everyone knows the other.The girls' response is very preserved due to social control factor.

3.Hotel Ternopil is the worst hotel I have ever visited.The rooms available for 25$ were not renovated,they did not have curtains,they stunk,had old stinking blankets,the toilet door could not be closed and there was always water running and an awful smell of old,rotten wood.Even light and electricity facilities were soviet style,very primitive and not comfortable at all.

The non renovated rooms in this hotel are a real museum of soviet times for the fans.

The renovated rooms are better but they cost double.Maybe today they cost 50$ per day or more.

4.There is no prostitution activity in hotel and hotel area generally.Who gave you this information?

Generally Ternopil although the poorest city in Ukraine is to be avoided.There is really nothing there.To give you an impression,there were people buying big fish,apparently not fresh,awful smelling on bazar in front of railway station.
The fish were full of flies and the sellers did not make any effort to remove them.
I got to a small,dark restaurant besides railway station to buy food and there was mud on the restaurant's floor!Then it started raining and the rain came to us through the roof.

You need guts,patience and adaptivity to hard life to monger in such place.And it does not offer you any advantage over other cities.
