Sure, Lvov, Lviv or even Lemburg is a larger town. My info is 4 years back and I stayed in some hotel called Grand. All what you need availble in the lobby or bar. You will have no problem to find fun. In case you do not know what to do then ask hotel security, it will be the first and only hotel in Ukraine if he cannot help you...

The travel from Ods to Nik, is at least 2 hour and half, the street is very bad, many truck and slow cars, they are about only 150km but they seems 400km..

The city is little and pretty sad city, typical FSU city, I had to meet with 2girls.

I have been to Nikolaev in May 06. I went there after Odessa on my way to Kiev. Actually there is a night train from Nikolaev to Kiev so I decided to make a 1 day stop at Nikolaev which is just 2 hours by bus from Odessa .

Stayed in Hotel Kontinent just in front of Mc Donald at the crossing of two main streets.

As for the sadness of the city you are talking about, I can only agree with you
Many young people on the main street but when you are walking alone you feel little bit depressed, and besides this street, nowhere to go for an interessing walk. You feel like trapped.

Was at a strip club (just near the hotel on main place), you seem to be looked down by waitresses if you go there alone, but I suspect this place to be much better if you go there with some friend(s). For one hour or two I only drink beers and looked at the shows then left.

Back to the hotel I had the lucidity to ask the guy at the desk for a girl, he said he will call me back. 5 minutes later he called me said one girl will come, costs 200 grivna/hour (about 30 euros). 30 minutes later the girl came, she was OK but not more, same for the service but it was still going better after a disappointing day. She was 19 or so, maybe a 6,5

Then when she left I gave her 10 grivnas for her taxi and asked her to tell the guy at the desk I want another girl. The guy called me, asked if I disliked the girl I said no but I just want another one. He said OK I have better one but she more expensive, 250 grivnas. No problem for me.

I have been recently in Nikolaev. Mainly because Odessa was boring, but also because I red two positive reports on Nikolaev. One of these reports was "Ukraine or Minsk?" from Ruan2006. The other report I did read on a different forum.

I still am not sure what to think about Nikolaev.

I did stay one weekend (friday-sunday).
Only place were something happens is main street, were all bars are. And only in the weekend. Already sunday evening things were down.
There also is a disco somewere else in town. But disco's are not my thing.
