I found province very rewarding but you need a lot of patience.

In cities with less than 200.000 inhabitants it gets very boring,there are very few girls to pick up and clubs contain companies with no way to separate the girls. Province can be full of surprises and the foreigner gets better treatment than in Kiev. However for somebody with plenty of money and few time to spend (for example only one weekend) Kiev is definitely better option.

But that's a "good" thing, isn't it? I mean less tourists, harder trip, more gesh por moi? At the very least you find some girl deseprate to get to the Big City on your way back to Kiev. I had a friend who did the Trans Siberian Railroad and said that he had women throwing themselves at him, to take 'em to Moscow (but he's a bit of a braggart, so I never gave that much credit.)

My personal motis apperendi has been to base myself in the Big City, Manila, Jakarat, Havana. Then scoure the provinces for fresh fish.

But I've never been to the Ukraine, or Eastern Europe (other than Hungary) so I'm wondering if this technique is a bit outta form - especially when you see a well designed Web Page that looks like you will be the latest patsy taken to the local ATM machine when you get off the bus/train.

Sumy is a very small city. Just one decent club in the whole city. Non pro action is a little less. For tourists.

I would strongly recommend avoiding the following agencies (all are the same company):

1) www.mystay.org (they provide apartments in Denepropetrovsk);
2) Cindy's Agency or
3) Cinderalla Agency (both are marriage agencies)

I booked for in advance and paid for an apartment with mystay.org; They confirmed receipt of payment and guaranteeed the apartment since I already pre-paid. When I arrived in Dnepropetrovsk, they were a no show at the airport. I went directly to the office after taking a taxi from the airport and they said the apartment was unavailable and they had nothing else.

They claimed they would refund the deposit but never did. I have used apartment agencies in Kiev several times with no problems: Eastonhouse; Kievapartments4you.com but if you are going to get an apartment or looking for a marriage/dating service in Dnepropetrovsk, krivvy Rog, etc. I would avoid the above mentioned companies.

I don't really know the scene during the night.
