just looking at the recent photos made me think of something - not suggesting it as a rule - but grandpianist might get a chuckle if you can check your recollection -

the scalp shops generally have a tarty looking girl at the entrance. in thailand she'd be called a 'come-inside'. her job is to smile wantonly at you and suggest you might want to come inside fro a good time (which, as we know, really means re-mortgaging your house for a couple of watery drinks and some prattle about how the law doesn't let them take clothes off).

I don't doubt your experience in skull busting joints. You extrapolated from that to suggest all clubs were skull busting joints, which is not the case. As skull busting clubs are definitely to be avoided, if it not a survey worth doing blind. The statistics mean sh*t. If you have two good clubs it doesn't matter whether there are 20 or 200 skull busting clubs. As long as you have the sense to only go to the good ones.

Grandpianist has added an excellent post on Sunset Strip. The girls are mostly goodlooking. The downside is the damn tipping routine imported from America. You don't have to tip, but they make less fuss of you if you don't.

In the early days there used to be such a thing as British striptease. The dancer would move slowly and sensually, teasingly, as if shy about removing her clothing. It needs to be explicitly stated that the Sunset Strip is legit.

I first went there in the late 1970s when the best of the ladies were probably no more than a 7.5 in attractiveness and none of them were shaved between the legs nor possessed breast enhancements. In more recent years, it's obviously changed hands as the two old boys who used to run were no longer there and a bar has been installed at street level. Once more, there are NO clubs in Soho that are safe. If there is one worth going to it will be the proverbial needle in the haystack.

You really ought to talk from wider experience or listen to those that have.

The general rule is that all the so-called strip clubs in London are dangerous rip off joints. You have to know the exceptions. These are totally the opposite. If you go to Sunset Strip at a busy time you will see the punters drinking at the bar at the open front where the till is situated. You will see them taking a drink downstairs to watch the show and come back. If you are scared the guy on the till will probably let you speak to one or two before paying or going downstairs. I find the place a tad predictable in the shows (it used to be less Americanised) but it is definitely safe.
