Thanks, Fournicenight, for alerting us to the likely places in The Gambia where we might have an entire US dollar stolen from us. Are you by any chance related to McGruff the crime dog?

It is well known by expats that the Gambian people are a race of liars and cheats and thieves. There are of course a good number of Gambians who are good and trustworthy, but the temptation of these very poor people to steal is often too great for them to resist. I have had 3 experiences this last week which I feel I ought to report on various forums to warn others of a trend which is becoming more apparent. When I've paid for my drinks or meals I've been left waiting for ages for my change. Now in The Gambia change isn't easy to come by and I know that the bars and restaurants have difficulty finding change. However, on the three occasions this week, the change simply wasn't forthcoming and the waiter/waitress has disappeared into the back somewhere, presumably pocketing the money and hoping I would simply get up and leave thinking that the change was insignificant. The change is insignificant and I would generally have given it as a tip, but when I am not given that option I get annoyed. Last night after waiting for 10 minutes, I went to the back of the restaurant, found the waitress who was near the cashier and asked her how much I gave her. Embarrassed, she looked at the cashier, who said sorry, he forgot, then pulled MY 30 dalasis from his pocket. I then decided that I would warn others not to let them get away with this malpractice and name and shame the establishments.
The places that have tried to "rip me off" are
Yasmina's
Jewel of India
Latitude Bistro
All these places are on Senegambia strip.

Posts: 2It looks like that the Baobab Holiday Resort is in Bijilo and not in Kololi.
But I don't know how far away is it from Kololi.
The webside from the Baobab is www.baobab.gm

Posts: 44The Sportsman will be re-opening on Friday this week under new management, and I doubt if it will be the same as before when it was run by Derek. I believe that an English couple are taking over. The telephone numbers I posted here for Derek are no longer valid for the Sportsman.

I found no girlfriendly hotel; you have to book a double.
Private is hardly to find; i mean an accepteble room.
Try the road from the beach to the clinic. Invest a few bucks
in a taxidriver; it should help. BUT; a good apartment (water+electricity
running) is not cheap

Posts: 2Where to stay in Gambia?
I`m planning a trip to Gambia next december. This will be my first time in Gambia.
I`m looking for a girl-friendly hotel without extra charge.
I read something about "Sportsman"
What is Sportsman?
A ST hotel ,apartment or a guest house ,with or without swimming pool?
Or does anybody knows another girl-friendly hotel close to the action?
I´m happy if anybody help me?
Thanks in advice

A must: Jokor in West Field on Wednesdays.
Don't cheat yourself when you are in Banjul. Be at JOKOR in West Field on Wednesdays. A lot of beauties there on Wednesday nights.

Fourniceight: you were right with your currency concerns. I got only 25 Dalasi for 1 Euro, the price level was horrible, the same prices in restaurants and bars like in my homecity munich.
All things considered it was a nice holiday, but very expensive. Even the girls (in wow! ) are expensive, they want to have at least 1000 D (40 Euros), much more than in kenya or Thailand.

Thanks Fourniceight! I will try the places. What about girl hunting in the day time. Are there any nice girls on the beach too? I don’t like the girls too old. Look forward to have some more tips from you.
