its not that place. The place im talking about is further towards senegambia. Its a fairly new place since (2004). It has a straw house on top of a small hill.

its about 15min walk on the beach from jufareh towards senegambia. The girl I'm looking for is very pretty her name is Adama Jallow.

She use to work with a small girl called mimona who is also very pretty and married to a dutch man now.

You know, Africa is works on remembering and honoring favors. Pity Western Union has such a high overhead, I think 20 euro is minimum cost level for small amounts. Otherwise I'd be using it more often for little surpirises. But if its the love of your life, sure I can find her.

If you scroll back in the forum for Gambia you will see that I stayed at Tafbel / Sarge's in November 2005. I had to pay 1500 dalasi for a guest but that did include her breakfast. I also had the experience of hotel security knocking on the bedroom door at about 01.30 in the morning when the girl had been checked in and they had already seen her identity papers.

I would say pay up or use alternative accommodation for mongering. Even if you pay up there is no gurantee that the security will not be difficult as I discovered.

If you give your home address or mobile number to any of the people you meet be prepared for 'begging letters'. Remember that by Gambian standards we are very wealthy since teachers may only earn about 1500-2000 dalasi a week.

Sure, in Gambia, like in Kenia, there are many local guesthouses/hotels that won't make problems taking a girl home, especially if you booked a double room.

I was talking about the tourist hotels only, the kind you get when you booked a holiday package. These have all the things a tourists expect, like almost always electricity and water. All these have a hefty reception fine.

There are appartments for rent in Gambia, sure. For the lowest prices, 100 euro/month you'd have to pay 6 months or a year at once. Unfortunately, I have no phone numbers, and I can't seem to reach my contact who had the number.

Other people may help you here, yes, please post.

Other appartments, catering for tourists, start at 10/15 euro a day. The European owners might not appreciate to much open raunchyness, as they have to live with the consequences concerning contacts with neighbours.

So, all things considered, going local will give no problems concerning girlfriendlyness, at the price of some security issues (tourist hotels have 24h security sitting at the entrance). As I did have a place I rented robbed in my absence; physical violence in Gambia is very rare though.

Anyway, this is the background why I was advising the combination higher class safety+private few hours elsewhere.

People who rent or build a free standing house almost always have full time security live in in the compound.

Your idea of renting a place and being free is charming though, so don't let this deter you.

Just don't put your pension savings on the couch in the livingroom as someone once literally did, to find it gone.

Move free and light, don't bring anything you don't want to lose. And 99.9% of the people are so sweet to be with.

Oh sorry; I was many times in kenia; there are also not girlfriendly; BUT if I book a double or an apartment I do what I want; also in gambia.

And for sure in all these countries it's possible to find such an acommodation So I will see; AND waiting for information in this forum.

No, dear college Trekkie, you're not wrong.

However, me thinks there are some finer points that might be added to this discussion:

1) Prices are actually sometimes approaching 40 euro for the hotel reception at the well-known tourist hotels.

2) The reason given is that they (the hotel) had had too much trouble with some girls stealing stuff and causing other trouble for the tourist (to give an example: girl calling the police, and sharing with them whatever they, with their loud voiced accusations now amply filling the room in combined force and semi-legality, can scare out of named visitor). And this type of unrest of course meanwhile causes a bad name for the hotel, but this forum certainly wont find that a valid argument. Anyway they (subject: the hotels again) seem to have decided can well live without all that, so they're not really interested in lowering this entrence fee. I found it non-negotiable, but I might be missing something there (some guys managed to get a girl in, paying bribes at the back door security, but this only resulted in these poor men loosing their jobs later on, bad deal for them (i.e. the security guys) ).

3) While these incidents, girls causing trouble, are rare, there might still be some wisdom gleaned from this.

4) Namely, to keep your private place private, your bagage safe, and your name locally in good state of repair, and use the short time hotels at a rate of 150-200 Dalasi. Think, or mention to the taxidriver, Keneba or Bakaladji.
You know Africa, for all things there usually already is a solution at hand. And it does not always have to be costly.

I think you'll struggle Steve I found it really difficult to get girls back to my room without paying. That ridiculous guest fee most hotels in Gambia will charge a fee for bringing a guest back to your room. I stayed at Europa Apartments nice but had to pay up to a £10 per girl. Until I negotiated them down that's one of the reasons I look for pussy in Ghana,Ivory Coast and Kenya now. Then again I might be wrong!

As an alternative; is hotel tafbel and tafbel maisonettes the same?

Is it true that tafbel is only open in the winter?

I'll be in Gambia for 3 weeks in summer and looking for a girlfriendly acommodation; like sudio or apartment. Everytime the trouble with the expensive beachresorts and their guards is not longer my buisness.

Yeah that new disco is Totties. Wow is taking a beating from them. Totties is less raunchy, more space, often free tickets handed out on the street. Very nice obers often bringing you the drinks personally with a big smile.

Though sometimes I like (need) the good old crazy atmosphere of Wow (wow means yes in Wolof), where they come sit on your lap uninhibited, & fight (a bit, not really) over you, that wont happen in Totties, the place is too clean .

Tom, I have the same with spy bar. I hear good things, but in my case I always manage to go there on the wrong time, seeing the place empty. Dunno why. I'm pretty sure, if this place is still alive, it probably peaks at friday & saturday nigth, not every night sure party like Wow.

adding to that that now there is a new disco next to waw, last time I was there (nov 05) it just opened and they had free entrance, so it was very crowded. I allways stay at the Kairaba and tip the guards, there is no problem, but I get the room foc, so thats good ....
Roman, is spy bar still open? I allways wan to go there and have a look, but I never do, you hear all kinds of things about that place .....

Yeah I was talking about Wow disco, same. That's the hard core gathering place. Pretty wild, I was never bored. 100 Meters from Sarges (good choice btw, friendly staff). It's upstairs above Jazzcafe. Sit outside, watch the scene on the street, turn around again, and notice suddenly the girls are dancing with their back towards you while looking inside themselves and pretending not to notice you behind them. Very subtle. And a very beautiful sight. They know how to move & know you're watching: ). Others are more straightforward, you'll see.

Pity, Sarges used to be free daytime taking a girl. I enjoyed it with my steady girlfriend. But no more.

Keneba is about 300 meters, follow the street out (the street is called "Senegambia strip"), left at the crossing, first dirtroad to the right, it's after ca. 150 meter on your right hand. But with the lady you'll still get a taxi for 50 Dalasi night time (high heels, dirt roads). Both the taxidriver and the girl will know where it is. I'm just telling you so you can follow the route yourself and know it's OK. Say hello to the englishman there. He's ok. And used to the "vulture girls" as he calls them, coming there.

Take a nice one, ok, no need to go with the ones with the hard looking eyes. They're not worth the trouble. There are plenty sweet ones. Count on about 500 Dalasi min and 1000 max for the girl, though I know a photomodel who gets 1500 and some toubabs (=white men) go cheaper but then it gets a bit questionable.
