Well, honestly in terms of security, Nigeria is not safe. You'll need an security escort for most of the states. The only city I can recommend for whites is Abuja (the Capital State).

I had the opportunity to visit both, Ghana and Nigeria. For this last country my experience is limited to Lagos and Benin City.

Honestly I must admit that in Ghana I feel me more relaxed in regard of personal safety but about Nigeria there are too many legends. Keep anyway your alert on high level.

Maybe Nigeria is more uncomfortable than Ghana, for example the lack of power that makes impossible to go out after sunset unless one doesn't take a dropping car or shared.

Other problem is the real danger of crossing the road considering that the most of drivers has not studied to get driving licence.

Last but not least, I don't find in Nigeria that plenty of street food offered on Ghana roads, so comfortable for us as visitors, compensated by the high level offered by venues and clubs in Nigeria.

In Benin City people look almost quite and good mannered. The thing of being an Oyibo has not created me any problem, on the contrary I was always in the centre of attention.

Sometimes I had the impression to have overpaid something but the surplus converted in Euro was never more than 5%.

I'm a Nigerian as well and I'll say that while Nigeria is not as safe as Ghana, most of the places that aren't safe are not really where the "action" is. Most foreigners stay in either Lagos or Abuja. Lagos has more variety but can be hectic, where as Abuja is far calmer and easier (it's akin to Ghana in some regards).

I wouldn't worry too much as a foreigner. When I go out to clubs and bars in Lagos and Abuja I see plenty of Europeans and Americans. They look like they have a good / decent time. Once you get the lay of the land then you'll be good. Nigeria, like Ghana and a lot of African countries, have the girls flock to certain bars and clubs. Set up shop there and you'll be good to go.

I will say this though: Ghana and Nigeria will offer you the same in terms of variety of women. Ghanian women do tend to be a tad curvier and aren't as aggressive (this is a country thing as a whole though). I always say Accra is like training wheels for Lagos.
