When: Sept 2013.

Where: Accra, Kumasi and Cape Coast.

Duration: 2weeks.

Ghanaians think they are cool but they aren't as cool as Kenyans. If you go from one country and then swiftly to the other (as I recently did) you will notice the difference. Kenyans have a more happy vive and they aren't corrupted by the scum land that is Nigeria.

This is a great report and it indicates several things. The first one is that you have to be able to front up in such local environments, otherwise you will get played or worse. Second, most of the girls had some issue or other which does not make them LT propositions. This is unfortunately a problem in Ghana. You get a girl for the evening and then she wants to stalk you or move in.

To really enjoy your time in location where P4P is available, especially in local style environments, it helps if you really do not give a damn, have nothing to lose and are inebriated. Having said that, you have to be really careful as someone can take advantage of you although Ghana is thankfully not a violent place.

What does annoy me in Ghana is that no one is friendly without a catch. That nice guy at the local bar is going to look for something from you (money, alcohol) or will be getting a commission when he hooks you up with someone. Sometimes you meet someone who lets saves you from some hassle. Like the Ghanaian guy who warned Jim about a certain girl. But too often, the nice guy who helps you out invites himself for a few beers at your expense. You either have to put up with several hours on religion (unless you can find a way of steering the conversation) or else you have to be rude and nasty and send the guy on his way.

Unfortunately, it is not really an option for someone who lives here to carry on in the drug and alcohol fueled carefree way that Jim did. The place is full of gossips and can be very judgmental and this can have a knock-on effect on your work. Being involved in the P4P scene while being discrete is very difficult or even impossible.

Jim was also right to be careful about leaving the smell of weed about him. Being caught with weed can carry a jail sentence according to the law of the land. Don't know if they apply it to tourists but I would not want to try it out.

Even if it would not be the way I would go, this was a really great and interesting report, in almost a Hunter S Thomson style!

I found your report amusing. The way you wrote it and the way you show how cheap people can be. I would never ever put myself in your shoes. I would not treat even the biggest working girl like that.
