I found an up-to-date report however dakar topic seems to be resurrected as this place is one of the best locations as far as I know.

Texas Bar and Chez iba are the best and easiest places to go if you don't have much time. What I do is, checking the exact locations on google maps and find the nearest location to accomodate but unfortunately there is no such data as Texas Bar. Could you please tell me the exact location of it. Also can you direct me to the closest GF hotel which should be below 100 USD. What should be a 3 star hotel price?

One problem I spoted, this place is far more expensive that Ethiopia, Kenya or Ghana.

So firstly please tell me where exactly Texas is.

Secondly please recomend a decent hotel as close as possible (GF)

Can I find 9s and 10s in those above mentioned clubs. Chez iba or Texas, which one do you think is the best.

I will stay only for 5 days so I have limited time so I don't want to discover the downtown.

So after only going to well known paths. I was given the opportunity to visit Senegal and I took advantage of it.

I have decided to give a synopsis of what I experienced in Dakar.

The Landing.

I get in from New York at 5:30 AM and its pitch dark. The airport has no jetways so you have to walk down the stairs and board a bus. The bus takes you to passport control which is only three lines. Bam the lights go out and I am waiting in darkness for 5 minutes and then lights go back on. Waited my turn and got stamped in. When you get to the baggage claim you already have porters asking you if you need help. I said no thank you headed out the exit. Once you leave the building tons of folks attack with the phrase 'my friend' or is, 'This your first time' questions.

The Roads.

Lucky my contact had the car ready and I got in and we drove off. The roads were dirt roads at best and you have to avoid the cattle, sheep and horses on the road. A lot of pot holes and many cars being held together by bondo and duct tape. Getting closer to the hotel the road was paved and a concrete barrier was installed between on going traffic. The American Embassy is being built by the hotel so you see a lot of trucks driving back and forth.

The Hotel.

I stayed at the Le Meriden President. The hotel is guest friendly but they make you sign them in downstairs. I ate breakfast and went to my room. Woke up after 2 PM went to the pool to catch some sights. Unfortunately there wasn't any. On the beach they were having a surfing contest and saw some of the hardcore surfers surf around all the coral and rocks on the beach.

The Restaurants.

We were invited to a local family birthday party but was so hungry we stopped a small neighborhood bar restaurant that severed pork ribs. Even thought Senegal is a Muslim country getting pork is not a problem. When we walked in the flies were all over but they lit a special candle and flies went away. Mind you it was an open air restaurant. The ribs were quite good but you couldn't find this place because it's unmarked. What I found funny was the smoke was blowing towards a nearby mosque. Also the late night spot to eat is Katia not to far from the hotel. The late night crews go there to eat and keep drinking until 10 AM. In downtown there is a restaurant called Caesar's and they serve good fried chicken.

The Hospitality.

The family we visited went all out. Beer after beer they wouldn't let our bottles get empty before they brought out new ones. They had all kinds of food which was delicious and were invited to go back to their house any time. We had a great time and when we mentioned we wanted to go out. They all got together and took us the local water holes.

The spots.

Mind you we were with locals who went to the local spots. These places were not my cup of tea but if you wanted to compare I would say it's close to Vila Mimosa in Rio or the Trocadero in Lima.

First club Le Mambo. Complete nose dive no chicks at all empty.

Second club Alkatraz. The place only had 2 girls there and just like the name you needed to be in jail and drunk to even think about doing something.

Third club Chez iba. Outside is the restaurant now there were over 30 women there but none that would have inspire me. We didn't go inside because was 2000 XOF to get in.

Our local folks stayed at Chez iba and we decided to go down town.

Forth spot Skynet bar. The place is a favorite with the French air force. We walked in and there was two cute girls there and was chatting one of them up. Now my friends wanted to leave because the beer prices there were over 6 dollars a beer. So we left.

Fifth spot Calypso bar. Walked in saw it was dead and walked out. Went across the street.

Sixth spot Texas bar. A lot of girls but none too inspiring. Again the beer prices there were over 6 dollars. We left the place and called it a night and ate at the late night spot.

The next day we went to another sector near the hotel and quality was way better. The first spot we went into is Club Nirvana. Now this club is a legit club with legit girls just trying to have a good time. So if you go there don't expect it full of hookers. Since we had other places to do we left after an hour. Next we went to the Casino Cape Verde. The place had live music and a lot of the expats hang out there. Couple of girls there and I was chatting up a real nice one but the girl had an unrealistic price range. She had the nerve to ask for 300 USD I just laughed at her face and went to play some blackjack. After playing a couple hands of blackjack we left. This last spot is the place to be its called Le Patio. Many expats go there and girls are really nice. So for those who want to cut thru all the BS I would recommend going there first. Many pretty girls on the caliber of DR chicks. Only draw back is a lot of African girls have weave. If you go here do not go over 20000 XOF for all nighter. I don't care how fine she is let's not spoil it.

The massage parlors

If you get a chance pick up a copy of Afrik Annonces paper.

This paper has a section for massage. With this paper you can call then to your room or visit them in their parlor. Most have 10, 000 XOF promos you can work it from there.

Dakar is one of my favorite cities anywhere. Good French cuisine, sea breezes, decent hotels, and beautiful and available women. Even the new African Renaissance Statue and the hopeless corruption of President Abdoulaye Wade's fin de regime isn't enough to put a damper on the place. I have been there many times over the years, most recently last December, and I will be going again next month. December was the best weather I have ever experienced in Dakar: warm but not hot, no rain. Mosquitoes, sure, but nothing is perfect. Anyway, for a weather report go to weather.com. I will always have a warm spot in my heart for the Texas Bar, just off the Place de l'Independance downtown. You can sometimes feel a bit mobbed, but some of the girls are stunning and for the most part pretty friendly. FCFA 20,000 will do the trick, more I suppose if you want her to spend the night.
