I can only report my best impressions about this place regarding that.

I agree with Carnevalisticus: Hotel Farid is friendly in all respects and just a few blocks away from the action (closest being Texas Bar). The hotel will provide you with a taxi to meet you at the airport, if you feel insecure about getting a ride on your own. They will pay the driver and you can reimburse the hotel after you get some CFAs (of course the ride will end up costing twice the amount you pay normally).

There are more affordable places close to downtown Dakar: for example the Saint-Louis Sun, that will cost a little less, but the cheaper rooms will not have a window...

Farid has a safe deposit box in the rooms, which I found convenient.

Why not make a reservation for a few nights in Farid (or any other 50-70 euros per night place) and look for a more affordable place to stay when you have settled down?

About budgets: Dakar can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. Stay in the suburbs and eat on the streets or shop for food in the markets and 25 dollars a day is plenty. On the other hand, you can spend that amount on a few drinks at the Africa Star.

Last night here in the Mandigo club at the Sofitel I danced a couple of songs with a waitress named Nadine. While we were dancing I told her that she was very beautiful. She then had to go tend to customers. We she came back near me I asked if she finished working at 7am (since that is when the club closes). She said yes so I asked when she had time for me. She told me that she had time right after work. So she brought me a pen and pad and I wrote my name and room number down.

At 6am I got a call from the desk saying that Miss Nadine was waiting downstairs. I told them to send her up. I cracked the door and got back into bed. As soon as she walked in the room and said hello she took her clothes off and got into the bed with me. She is kind of tall and has a nice body. She started rubbing on my back. I said damn this feels good. How much is all this going to cost me? She asked how much I wanted to give her. I told her that it is a bad idea to ask me that because I would say 0. She finally started at US$100. No way dude. I told her $10. She told me that she couldn't even get a beer in Senegal for that much money. I told her in that case she shouldn't drink beer. Her lowest offer was $50, which I don't think is bad. I'm sure she would have taken $40.

I'm just not into west African girls and just coming from Colombia on the weekend and getting broken off by my non-pros there I'm not too hard up. It's nice to know though where I can go if I really do need it. I'm not sure if the other waitresses in the club fall into the same category. The bartender was nice as well. I probably would have given her $50.

Let me be straight forward with you. 20-25 Euros per day for a halfway decent hotel will be next to impossible. I know a clean hotel, owned by an lebanese family, more or less close to the center. Lets say 15 min walking. They charge 36 Euros per night,

I have been to Senegal a few times in the last few years and have stayed for over a month each time. I am not the type to go after prostitutes, not that I'm opposed to it but it is just something that I have not really got involved with as of yet. As well, when I first visited Senegal I was not looking for sex (I was not hiding from it either! ) and to be frank I was not expecting it, especially since it was a traditional society and an Islamic one. But I soon found out that many of the women are modest in public but behind closed doors is another story.

I had rented a small room there and after a few days, I guess when the locals figured out I was staying for awhile, I had a different girl coming up to my room almost every night, sometimes two at a time! In fact more often than not they actually came during the day when they could get away from their work (many of them were maids). I even had males that I made friends with bring females to my room. Even the girl's own sisters, aunts and female cousins would hook me up with them.

None of these girls were prostitutes, at least not in the traditional sense, sometimes I would give them money, sometimes I would buy them something to eat, shit, some of these girls just wanted ice cream! But most of the time I did not give them anything as they rarely asked for anything. The thing is they are hoping for you to fall in love with them and marry them. This is for two reasons, as a traditional culture, women are expected to get married young and a woman in her early 20's, sometimes late teens even, get desperate to get married. The other reason, of course, is that they believe that an American or European man is their answer to get them to a better life with more money and more opportunities.

Some of these girls know the deal and are immediately open to sex but most of these girls are naive so you have to be careful when a girl comes to your room and not assume that she is just there to fuck you. And some of these are "more" Muslim than others and will not fornicate under any circumstance before marriage however even these girls will give you a lot of physical attention with their mouths and hands (sometimes with your genitals but not always! ) the African woman is very sensual even if she is a "prude".

It gets very easy to start looking at every Senegalese girl you see as a potential encounter but in my experience it's best to just hang back and let them approach you because even though a lot of them are a lot of them aren't and the last thing you want to do is insult anybody and further the impression of the horny American/European with no respect or morals.

Even though I have not gone the prostitute route in Senegal I know that it is thriving and even legal for the most part. But as it is a Muslim society the prostitutes have to be discrete even though it is legal so it may be difficult to spot them. I know they tend to be around the obvious places like hotels and night clubs.

If you do go it is best to avoid the Islamic holy month of Ramadan when even the most lax of Muslims pretend, at least for that month, that they are the most devout of Muslims and avoid all sinful activities. However. If you can make it at the very end of Ramadan then that is good. My first time there was the day after the end of Ramadan and these 2 girls approached me smiling, they did not speak English but a man in full Islamic garb approached me with a grin informed me with a wink that Ramadan was over.

Hi Mate, the hotel is called Farid , I leave here a link to look at :http://en.venere.com/hotels_dakar/hotel_farid.html , I was there when it has been looking worst , so obviously they made a major renovation.As I heard the price is now 50 euros ar about 75 $ , but hey the restaurant is great and they have been very girlfriendly. But the best is that you are in walking distance to the center. When I have been there , mid July , the airport had no ATM and it was f....ing hot inside, just one officer checking the tourists at the check in. Dont be shocked by the taxidrivers who are waiting outside like lions for their pray.Be stiff , and chose a good car , after 10 minutes ride you will see on the right side the big disco ( Casiono or so - I dont remember ) , thats a good hunting spot - maybe the best .Dont change money on the street , ask your hotel receptionist, maybe they even change your cash, they did when I had been there.Enjoy your stay , I am starting to be jealouse a bit because the senegal women are realy cute and nice.

About changing money, can you tell me if is easy to find automatic points where is possible to withdraw CFA? Especially, there is one in the airport?

Yes, I know, one week is quite short but this is for the moment. And about Kenya you are right, I was there, but this time I preferred to change a little bit.

Lets say 15 min walking. They charge 36 Euros per night, and than you need minimum another 35-45 euros per day. In case you need everyday someone to acompany you. So be aware that you need at least 70 euros everyday " in the field ". And 1 week is quite short man. For my taste you are better off in Kenia.

20 to 25 Euro will be short to find decent hotel in Dakar centre.

All hotels are girls friendly, some will just take the ID at the looby, it will be return on her way out.

My budget is more or less 20-25 euro for day and, of course, I need an hotel where is possible to bring a woman without problems!

Even better if the hotel is in the centre and is enough safe.

Well, if you are looking for the scene in Senegal than only Dakar has what you might need. And 50 euros for spending everyday, dining, wining out, chicks etc, is rather normal than " too expensive ". Remember a girlfriend is expensive
