In Freetown you can take the official government bus to Bo near the junction of Rawdon Str. And Wallace Johnson Str. Tickets are 35 k and 5 k for the luggage (weight). Arrive at 5 o clock AM to queue for tickets. Bus leaves between 6 to 7 and you arrive in Bo around noon.

Bo is the second largest city of SL but it has the feel of a provincial city. No upscale restaurants, bakeries or ice cream parlours. There is a Lebanese canteen style restaurant called Rury's otherwise only African eateries. The city does have some nightlife.

Reception area looks like an African corner shop. Has a restaurant on site serving local dishes between 12-20 k. Didn't sleep here but went to eat a couple of times. The young lads can also hook you up with a local girl if you wish. They are not hardcore rip offs.

Mid-range

Sahara Hotel , 4 Fatu Lane off Prince William Str. Rooms 100-250 k, breakfast included. I did stay here but they are not particularly friendly. They have 2 buildings. The building at the reception has rooms of similar quality as 'heat and cold'. I would only consider the rooms in the building opposite the reception to be mid-range. Ask to see the 'executive rooms' for 250 k with AC. Large comfortable beds, large rooms and clean shower / toilet. It's a first level of decency. Above you have similar rooms for 150 k without AC. Not to be confused with the other 'Sahara hotel'. This is the one at 'the watch tower'.

Sir Milton Hotel , 6 Kissy Town Rd. Rooms 150 - 350 k. Overpriced and rundown.

Madam Wokie Hotel , 25 Dambala Rd. Rooms 100 - 330 k. Overpriced and rundown.

If you want better you can stay at Doha's. Rooms are between 70-100 Euro / night.

Nightlife:

Dreams is kind of a 'beach bar'. Sand and sunshades. Rather low key, more a place you would take your girlfriend to. Same goes for The Palace. Your best bet is probably the Total petrol station area. On one side you have the Havana and on the other the Lamszal Plaza. I've heard it being described as the Total or Bo Plaza. They're all the same place.

Girls:

There is no union set price here. I was told ST is 50 to 100 k depending on the quality of the girl. 50 k is probably going to be second tier. Long time somewhere between 100 to 150 k. Before I left I had decided to go for 100 k LT but things worked out a bit differently. I pulled a girl from the Havana. I figured she wasn't a hardcore pro so I didn't negotiate before taking her with me. I didn't want to spoil the atmosphere. Anyway in the morning I was going to give her 150 k and I kept 50 k on the side just in case that wasn't enough but as she did her best and just kept on giving me sex every time she was about to leave LOL I just decided to give it all. She didn't count it but she saw the wad and she was happy.

I met a sweet girl from Bo on the bus from Freetown whom I was going to meet and the boys from Heat and Cold had set me up with a young university student short on cash. Unfortunately then the corona crisis started.

Generally there is not that much to do in Bo. It's also not a typical mongering destination. If you are limited in time you could be disappointed.

Thanks for your trailblazing report. Bo sounds a lot cheaper then Freetown. There is still some flights. Reminds me of the Ebola times where flights were around 3000 usd. I'm back in Europe. But only for work. I prefer to get stuck in Africa any time.

I'm in Bo now but I'm leaving tomorrow morning to Freetown to catch the first flight home. You can sense the EU is going to shut it's borders. After a while the there will be no airlines operating as there are no customers flying in or out. Only god knows what is going to happen now. I haven't been to SL for a couple of years but I doubt the centre has got any easier on the eye or nerves. It's a grid-locked abrasive hellhole but if you can deal with it, you're a tougher bastard than me.

I'm not particularly tough but getting out of my comfort zone is part of the fun of traveling for me. Yes, there is some hassle here but it's not that bad in my opinion. I felt unsafer in Tana. The tension is palpable there.

Checked out some of the places Camilo Cms recommended. Went to the Liberia Bar and to the place in front of Kadjibs Hotel in Wellington. Asked a keh keh (tuktuk) to bring me there. We didn't exchange a word. Just before we got there he turned his head around and said 'there many many bad people in there, watch for yourself. ' he was really adamant about that so I decided to go to another place just 150 m before the Liberia Bar, The Salones Bar. Pretty raw stuff. This is where the local boys of the hood go. On the rooftop there was a big terras playing some kind of Dancehall ragga. Think there was about 200-300 visitors and I was the only non black person there. Strangely enough I didn't get any looks. You probably can score there but many where in groups and there was not much dancing going on. Afterwards I did visit The Liberia Bar but it wasn't that busy nor was the bar with terras opposite Kadjibs Hotel. It was Saturday night.

Sunday I went to Royal Empire, this is in Garrison str. In the downtown area. In the weekends there is a cover charge of 20 k. Many people playing with their smartphones and like the other places a bit lame. Many playing with their phones little dancing. I didn’t like the place but you can score there. They have ST rooms. All the places I saw are not what I would call cash and carry mongering places. Your going to have to make an effort.

After the Royal Empire I went to The Suckle Pub on Aberdeen Rd. According to Camilo Cms the best place in Freetown. There where 6 blokes inside and not one girl. Not a single one. I'm not that impressed with the nightlife I've seen here until now.

I have an appointment with a girl I met on FB tomorrow. She turned 18 in Februari. I'm picking her up after school tomorrow.

Another pearl on Rawdon Str. Is Guest Place at nr. 42. Rooms from 75 k-100 k SLL. Add 15% sales tax. What can I say for 8 Euro one can't expect much.

I checked out Sweet Mother's Guesthouse. It was a disappointment. I really thought this place was going to be the ideal compromise between the higher and lower end accommodation. The hotel rooms are 37-50 USD (fan / AC) and the 'Bungalows' 50-75 USD (fan / AC). For 37 USD you don't get a particularly nice room without AC. And believe me it's usefull to have AC here. Don't expect the 'bungalows' to be anything grand. They are not. They are simply a room with a bed and a toilet with a shower. I would only recommend the 75 USD airconditioned rooms. They are nice and clean but for 75 USD you have more options. I also didn't like that they advertise their hotel rooms for 20 USD and 30 USD on Facebook while when I got there the minimum price for a room was 37 USD and for a bungalow 50 USD. Also don't think you are straight at the beach. You can't see the ocean. In front of the hotel is a concrete wall. You have to walk around 300 meters. And you are 7-8 km from central Freetown. Some of the bars here suggested are a couple of km's eastward from the city center. Then you would need to travel more than 10 km to go out. From a logistical point of view that wouldn't be ideal.

Maybe the best compromise I found until now is the YMCA at 37 Fort Street. This is a christian guesthouse and they offer an airconditioned spacious double with shower / toilet, airconditioning, fridge and T. V. For 350 k SLL. The place is what one could expect from a religiously inspired hotel. Boring but decent and clean and the good thing is they are sympathetic towards our hobby. I had the audacity to ask if I could bring sexworkers inside but I formulated it slightly different. I said 'considering you are a christian guesthouse would you mind if I bring a girl from outside in my room. ' His eye widened. He replied the following 'yes, we are a christian guesthouse but if we know she's with you it's ok as long as she doesn't start making trouble'. They also have single rooms without T. V. , Ac. Or fridge for 200 SLL. Shower and toilet outside but they are clean.

The best lower end is the Freetowninn in my opinion. You get a single that fits two for 150 SLL with AC and decent wifi in the rooms. They've also recently repainted all the rooms but they have a damp problem like all the hotels in this area. Also no luxury far from. But logistically sound.

Good on the ground info on accommodation. Sorry SweMo guest house didn't work out. Prices are ridiculous. Its so hard to get info on budget accommodation. Thumbs up. Bo supposedly should be good too. Loads of students.

If the centre truly doesn't bother you, then go for it and stay in the East End. That would be cheap and you'd be a local celebrity.

Forget what it cost but I stayed at Charms Beach. It's not on the beach or even within sight of it but it's a ten minute walk to the strip on Aberdeen. Yes, Aberdeen is a bubble but risking your life on the back of a motorbike to go to and from there from the so-called centre each day isn't worth the money saved on hotels.

Personally, I found someone I liked and took her to the beaches down the coast. Or found someone there. Or just got out of Freetown completely.

I did some thorough research on cheaper accommodation before I left and have compiled a list of 9 guesthouses / hotels to visit. I was planning to write a complete report this afternoon but guess what? It's national cleaning day every first Saturday morning of the month and nobody is allowed out until noon. If you do they'll give you a shovel to clean the street. Better take a girl with you the night before and have her stay otherwise you're going to be stuck with nothing to do. You can't even go out for breakfast. Everything is closed. Except for people cleaning there's no one outside.

For logistical reasons I decided to stay the first night at the Sierra International Hotel at 27 Rawdon Str. Single rooms 150 k-200 k SLL (fan / AC). Double rooms 200 k-250 k (fan / AC). This is a pretty sad hotel to my opinion. Black stain everywhere, grubby walls, plasterwork peeling off, bathrooms ok for African standards. No wifi.

Facing the Sierra you have the Hedjazi Hotel 32/34 Rawdon Str. Single room with AC for 200 K SLL. Doubles 180 k-220 k SSL. (fan / AC) Slightly larger rooms with sitting area and fridge. A bit better than the Sierra but only a bit.

On the other side of the block you have Hotel Freetowninn, 18 Howe Str. Single rooms 150 k SLL with airconditioning. Also better than the Sierra but only gradually.

From what I saw the concept of single / doubles is fluid. Sometimes a single simply means one large bed. And a double two beds. In all cases a single fitted two.

You can visit these 3 hotels in 10 minutes. They are all on the same block but be forewarned they are all moldy. Maybe some, especially the hardcore Africa guys, will be OK with them.

Nearly all budget accommodation is in the downtown area of Freetown. You should know that it's extremely noisy here. Cars honking all day long till 20:00-21:00. Safety seemed to be OK. I walked around the block at 23:00 PM. There where people around and stalls where open. The usual street hustlers where around though. I advise not to do business with these guys. They'll try to squeeze you any way possible.

It is easy to get lucky in Sierra Leone on any day of the week, here are some indications for the night:

Any day of the week:

- Rokel Commercial Bank (Wilkinson Road) https://goo.gl/maps/NXur19qyq8Uec7E47 After the bank you will see on the same street going to the west ladies hanging around, I will say they are pros.

How much to pay: between 30,000 Leones to 50,000 Leones or more depending if it is more than 1 hour. They have an improvised bed inside an unfinished building or you can take them to your place.

- Royal Empire: (Garrison Street) https://goo.gl/maps/Vw1zfbYcd1ReRQ4AA You can go any day after 10:00 pm you will see girls hanging out inside the bar, if you see one that you like just try to make eye contact and call her. In the same place there is rooms available for 25,000 LE 1 hour. Price per hour is between 30,000 to 70,000 Leones. They are semi pros, and some non pros, better than the girls you see around Wilkinson Road.

This is not inside Freetown, it is in Wellington, in front of the hotel Kadjibs in the main highway you can see a group of people any day after 11:00 pm dancing and listening music, you can pick any girl among them. Price per hour is between 30,000 to 50,000 Leones. They are pros / semi pros, some non pros. You can take them to Kadjibs hotel, they charge 20,000 per hour. The hotel is not the best but is ok for one hour and it is safe.

- Lumley beach: you can check around Lumley beach at any day after 11:00 pm you will see girls around (not many during the week). Price per hour is between 50,000 to 100,000/150,000, depends on the girl.

Wednesdays, Weekends.

Saturday is the best day to go out, after 12:00 am is the time people go out to the clubs, some options:

It gets very full on weekends and Wednesdays after 12:00 am. Normally you will not see many foreigners, so the girls also will not charge that much, a price between 30,000 and 50,000 is acceptable.

Also you can see many bars and clubs from Calabatown to Wellington on the main highway, on weekends after 12:00 am, you will find many non pros that will be available.

Some General tips.

* To avoid misunderstandings always negotiate before going with the girl to any place, the prices that I mentioned are not exact, they are guides, obviously they are going to try to charge more to foreigners and if the girl is very attractive the price is higher. In Sierra Leone it is very common to charge for a high price and then negotiate, the best strategy is to ask the girl how much she charges ask her like this: "how you operate", she usually will say a price double or more that what she would accept.

* Observe girls very well, especially in places where there are more pros. If they have a rash on their skin, lips or mouth, look for another one. These marks are symptoms of gonorrhea, syphilis or skin infections that are contagious with skin-to-skin contact.

I remember those ATMs well. Also one in the Radisson Blu and outside The Hub. You can spend a lot of time going round looking for one that's working, getting stressed out about having no cash. Afterwards, as the largest note is worth 1. 03 Euros, you then get stressed out about having a brick of notes in your pocket.

I read your experience and I can relate. I thought that this could be me. I had a similar experience in Kribi and in Douala, Cameroon.

In Ghana and in Mozambique, when I saw someone I wanted to meet in the day, let them know I was interested. They threw themselves at me.

I no interest in hard core working women. Still, I like to go out at night and watch and occasionally get attention.

Because of the inconvenience of accessing my money, maybe I'll pass on SL. I don't want to carry a load of cash.
