On my last visit to the Grand Hyatt in the summer of 05, I remember seeing those well built "Men in Black" security guys who used to stand by the elevator area. I was later told that their job was to watch people going up to the rooms especially the ladies, being it a gulf tourism season and all. I even saw one of them talking to an Egyptian looking girl who just looked like she was going up for some business

I know the guys that you speak of. I saw them hanging closer to lobby area, not by the club level elevators. Also, I saw quite a few of what I thought were local Egyptian women working out at the hotel's health club everyday. Highly unlikely, Zamalek and Maadi are the two spots of cairo where you can get semi decent european services, and shopping. Furthermore, Zamalek's got most of the embassies.
