Been on an AMP binge tour the past couple of days or so, relatively cool (cloudy) so walking is not too stressful. But definitely still need a shower after the deeds.

I ended up just paying 100 from point-to-point. Which is what I should have done to start with.

Went to Oslo Caf up by Piazza, described as a bright red, western caf serving great breakfasts. Indeed, reality is different from my expectation. It's really another hole-in-wall with small menu and nothing western about it. I had some very good Fetira with honey, and left. I have a shit-load of red pins on my Google map saying freelancers around this area, so looked around a little. Saw nothing but two fat freelancers on corner that looked seriously zombie.

Decided to walk down to the 'souvenir shops' by Nigeria street (since it was cool outside, and all downhill). This was a mistake.

Saying they were hungry, I just shook my head and kept walking. One punched me in the left shoulder from the front while another grabbed my bag from behind. But didn't get it as it was wrapped around my fingers. When I turned around (rather angry) they backed off but jeered me. The army dude 10 meters away just sat watching, the army lady with him gave me a death stare.

This happened two more times on the way down the hill. This time not physical but very much uncomfortable confrontations. I should have just grabbed a taxi, but wanted the walk. I felt the Piazza area I saw was not the coolest place for safety. Looked like a lot of dodgy young guys around and everyone very shabby. Too bad as it has much more ambiance than the Atlas / Bole area. One of the few places I didn't photograph. It was still early morning (9 am), maybe some of these folks were still out from the night before.

Normally I'll acknowledge someone if they greet me on street, but in Addis (so far) I mainly nod and ignore everyone. The few times I've said Hello, or where I come from I end up with the guy following me for a few blocks. When I cross the street amazingly he's going that way too. Until I flat out have to ask him to stop.

Went to massage place around the corner, all overweight or disinterested. I'm sure they see plenty of foreigners, but certainly got no favors.

5th day.

Took a tour of Merkato, insane place. One guy laying naked with his dick hanging out in the street, lots of madness. I hired a guide and was saying something like 400,000 people go through there a day. He had to pull one drunk guy off me in the metal area, other than that no problems. But I wouldn't care to go through there alone. Great photos. But discreet.

Went back to the street across from H20 in the evening (blackout), had a good time in the small bars bullshitting with some girls. Watching them drink coffee and all the incense. Interesting. Went back to Pink massage and had an average experience, this time for 700.

Conclusion.

Not a fan of Addis for the mongering scene. It's okay if you're into the massage short time experience, but wouldn't travel for it. I didn't try any night-clubs, so no idea. I didn't see much to my tastes (19/20 yo, skinny spinners). The city itself has charms but is sort of utterly dreadful (like vacationing in Mordor) compared to other mongering destinations. Nothing at all to do during day, very little tourist infrastructure. It may be 'safe' (for Africa) but certainly wasn't fun. Stay was partly ruined by my hotel. No aircon, no hot water after third day, shit internet, crap food. Can't believe guys on the board like it.

Wouldn't repeat, but glad to experience it. One awesome shag.

Bahir Dar is not a fun place for mongering like Hawassa (report to follow) or Addis. If there are hidden gems, I never found them. I visited 3 MPs scattered all over town:

The first, called Amey, is located in a small shopping center right next to Jacaranda (left side facing the lake). Been here at least a couple of times, always the same 2 ladies, likely in their early 30's, both not bad looking. One seems to be the operator, but both provide. Massage fee is 300 (high), full service with lady 2 (non operator) was 400, total damage 700. Next time I took lady 1 (operator), her massage skill was better than lady 2 and it was done on a professional table, with vital areas fully covered all the time. Third is located in the so-called expatriate territory. From Our Coffee cafe located at the corner of A3 & Belay Zeleke, walk north on Belay Zeleke towards lake Tana. At the bend, take the diagonal left turn into the residential area (towards Felege Hiwot Rd). Not far in you will see a sign for Hiwot massage to the right, follow it. This is a weird parlor, essentially a residential house, where the owner 'leases out' a side room for sinning. You have to knock and wait awkwardly at the gate. Massage lady was hot, but the room was the filthiest I have ever seen, the pilllow was untouchable. After a really shitty massage (lady had no skill or experience), the lady did not change the sheet, just straightened it up. To make it worse, the towel I used to wipe the greasy shit off me (no water for shower), she just refolded and put on top of the ones I thought were clean. Essentially they don't seem to wash anything here. I tried to complain but she didn't speak a word of English. By the way, the lady wanted 1200 for extra (massage was 200). Absolutely not worth visiting.

So long connecting flight had 24 hours in Addis, stayed at Harmony hotel very decent and very GF, cost was 60, in the 24 hours had three girls, first two were booked from massage places $50 for massage B2 B and sex, night time had a walk in the hotel area which is Pole, Edna mall, was approached by a dodgy guy who said there are university girls in house, went with him to a house with about 10 girls dancing, was asked to pay for their drinks which I refused, chose one of the girls 19 uni student pretty, madam wanted me to pay $250 for overnight I haggled down to $100 which is roughly 2600 birrs still much but was running out of time took the girl and her friend for local dance and meal then back to the hotel, it wasn't the full GF experience I expected but ended with a pretty girl in my bed and two goes at night and in the morning. Planning to go again next month, now I have few contacts and more understanding of the system, will stay at Hilton for one night then back to Harmony hotel.

Interesting experience. The university girl / coffee ceremony / you name it scam is as old as mongering in Addis itself. Most hotels I've stayed at in Addis are GF, including your next destination, Hilton. Even though some list extra charge for a guest, I have never been asked to pay even for overnight stay.

I noticed most of you guys get a hotel by or in Bole. But I'm a diaspora and my parents live by Laphto Mall. I have tired a few local MP a couple years ago when I can last but they weren't worth it. Thank you for the insight, yes you are right the whole thing was an obvious attempt at scamming and I did tell the madam that, in fact I first left then went back to pick the girl I wanted, It could be intimidating but strangely I didn't feel threatened. Of course the girl after the night kept whatsapp ing me asking for rent money hospital operation money and all of the crap and I just told her if she want money she has to pay for it one way or the other.

I've wandered round darkened city street areas, never felt threatened, the girls can be a bit grabby and the scammers are so obvious I almost feel sorry for them.
